The upcoming release of Battlefield 6 has stirred up plenty of excitement — and questions — within the FPS community. As expectations build around its multiplayer features, EA is slowly lifting the curtain on what players can expect.

From gameplay innovations to matchmaking tweaks, the studio is aiming to strike a balance between competitive integrity and player enjoyment. One recent reveal, however, has caught the attention of both casual and handsome fans alike.

EA has officially confirmed that Battlefield 6 will incorporate skill-based matchmaking (SBMM) within its multiplayer experience. However, the system won’t be uniform across all game modes. Instead, the matchmaking criteria will adjust depending on the specific game mode and player count.

Importance: Battlefield 6’s adaptable skill-based matchmaking system aims to balance fair competition with the series’ signature large-scale gameplay. By adjusting matchmaking based on game mode and player count, EA hopes to improve match quality without limiting player freedom.

    Battlefield 6 Matchmaking Factors Revealed

During the recent multiplayer reveal event, EA outlined how the matchmaking process in Battlefield 6 will rely on multiple factors beyond just player skill. These include players’ ping, their geographical location, and server availability.

    Flexible SBMM System

While skill will play a role, it will be combined with these other elements to determine matchmaking outcomes. Moreover, EA highlighted that this system is designed with flexibility in mind: depending on the game mode and player count, the importance and implementation of SBMM will vary.

These will be a general matchmaking filter applied before entering a match, as well as additional team balancing once players are grouped on a server, ensuring that teams remain competitive without isolating highly skilled players into overly challenging lobbies.

EA promises a smarter matchmaking system tailored to gameplay variety in Battlefield 6

This approach seeks to maintain the chaotic, large-scale battles Battlefield is known for, while still promoting fairness across matches.
