Jay Klaitz—the actor who famously portrayed Lester Crest in Grand Theft Auto V—has weighed in on speculation around the upcoming Grand Theft Auto 6 price point, stating that he believes the game “deserves” to carry a $100 label.

While neither Rockstar Games nor Take‑Two Interactive has confirmed the price, current analyst estimates suggest a price hike above the standard $70 may indeed be on the horizon.

In an interview with The Escapist, Klaitz discussed the extensive development time—beginning almost immediately after GTA V’s completion—and the continuous support via DLC and online content that audiences expect from a blockbuster like GTA 6. “You’re almost buying multiple games when you buy the one,” he said, suggesting that the scope and ambition behind GTA 6 would justify the premium price.

However, not everyone agrees with the $100 benchmark. Research from MIDiA Research suggests that a higher price could actually reduce overall revenue. Their findings indicate GTA 6 could generate more profit with the traditional $69.99 price point, as only around 35 % of surveyed consumers said they would “definitely or probably buy” at $99.99 compared to 60 % at $69.99.

Analyst Michael Pachter of Wedbush Securities has pointed out that GTA 6’s development costs are expected to be massive—traits that could warrant a $100 price tag. He predicts development may exceed $1.5 billion and lifetime earnings could hit tenfold that amount, reinforcing the idea that an elevated price might be justified.

As the debate rages on, the true price and release details remain shrouded. Rockstar and Take-Two have not disclosed the final price, and public attention remains fixated on whether GTA 6 will become the first mainstream $100 game—or whether sticking to the $70 sweet spot will prove wiser.

With the launch targeted for May 26, 2026, on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S (though PC may follow later), the industry is watching closely.

For now, Klaitz’s comments add a new layer to the pricing conversation, aligning with voices in the industry who believe that sometimes ambition demands a higher tag—but also echoing caution from analysts who believe consumer sentiment still favours more accessible pricing.
