Battlefield Fans Should ‘Temper Their Expectations’, Claims Ex-DICE Developer

The Battlefield series is reportedly entering a transformative phase. According to statements from an alleged former DICE developer, the franchise may undergo significant changes, prompting fans to manage their expectations for the next installment.

In a post on Bluesky, a user named Rizible, claiming to be an ex-DICE developer, revealed insights into the ongoing development of the upcoming Battlefield title. The user suggested that the franchise is shifting towards a new philosophy under an almost entirely different development team.

Rizible stated that after internal challenges led to what they called “DICE imploding,” nearly 98% of the core developers behind previous Battlefield games exited EA. The alleged goal of the new team appears to focus on maximizing revenue streams and shareholder returns.

So, if you're a Battlefield fan, temper your expectations. This is a new era of the game made by a completely new group of people, following a new philosophy. Whether that's good or bad depends on your personal outlook.

This marks a notable departure from the franchise’s previous approach, with EA reportedly steering Battlefield into a more live-service-oriented model. The rumored strategy includes annual game releases, seasonal content, a battle pass system, and modes akin to popular live-service experiences like Warzone.

These potential features aim to enhance engagement but may alienate long-time fans accustomed to traditional Battlefield gameplay.

Despite these rumors, EA’s CEO has emphasized the investment in Battlefield’s future, calling the current team the largest ever assembled for a Battlefield title. EA has also enlisted additional support from prominent studios like EA Motive, Criterion, and Ripple Effect.

The upcoming title, speculated to launch in 2025 or 2026, aims to honor the series’ roots while leveraging these new resources.

Rizible’s claims also include discussions on experimental features such as an AI Commander system and enhanced monetization elements like purchasable cosmetics. While unconfirmed, these additions seem aligned with EA’s vision for Battlefield as a live-service game.

However, such models have sparked controversy in the gaming community, as players debate the balance between delivering continuous value and over-monetizing experiences.

EA States That Demand For Battlefield Is Still Strong Despite Recent Failures

Officially, details on the next Battlefield installment remain scarce. While 2025 has been floated as a potential release window, Rizible speculates that the game might not debut until 2026. As fans wait for confirmation, discussions around the future direction of Battlefield continue to grow.

Live-service games are widely embraced for their ability to deliver fresh updates, seasonal events, and a strong community connection. However, they also carry the risk of diluting the essence of beloved franchises, focusing more on revenue generation than player experience.

If Rizible’s predictions hold true, Battlefield’s evolution could divide its community, appealing to some while disappointing others who value the series’ traditional identity.

Ultimately, the rumored changes to Battlefield signal an uncertain yet intriguing future for the franchise.

As EA works to balance innovation with fan expectations, only time will tell how these developments resonate with players and influence the long-standing legacy of Battlefield. On that note, what do you think of a live-service Battlefield title? Let us know in the comments section.
