The action RPG genre has seen a surge in popularity over recent years, with studios large and small racing to deliver the next big hit. As the demand for rich, replayable experiences grows, established publishers are increasingly turning to innovative developers with proven potential.

In a move that signals major ambitions for the future of ARPGs, one such developer is now poised for a game-changing transformation. Krafton has officially acquired Eleventh Hour Games, the studio behind the hit action RPG Last Epoch, in a strategic deal valued at approximately £71.5 million.

The acquisition grants Krafton full ownership of the studio and marks a major step in expanding its presence in the ARPG market. While Eleventh Hour Games will retain creative control and continue developing Last Epoch, the new partnership is set to accelerate development efforts, and titles.

Importance: The acquisition marks Krafton’s strategic push into the ARPG space, giving it a strong new IP while enabling Eleventh Hour Games to scale Last Epoch across platforms. It reflects a broader industry shift where major publishers invest in rising studios to secure long-term franchise growth.

From Indie Roots To Industry Spotlight

Founded by genre enthusiasts, Eleventh Hour Games has steadily built Last Epoch into a notable ARPG contender known for its deep skill customization and crafting systems. Though reception has been mixed, with critiques pointing to momentum issues after the initial excitement.

A Strategic Win-Win For Krafton And Eleventh Hour Games

Krafton’s acquisition is positioned as a mutually beneficial step—allowing the publisher to secure a valuable IP in a competitive genre while providing the studio with expanded resources and infrastructure.

According to EHG CEO Judd Cobler, the merge aligns perfectly with the studio’s vision, and with Krafton’s backing, they aim to elevate Last Epoch to new heights.

This announcement comes amid broader developments at Krafton, which recently faced legal scrutiny over its handling of internal leadership changes at Unknown Worlds.
