Larian Studios founder and CEO Swen Vincke marked the two-year anniversary of their hit RPG Baldur’s Gate 3 by hinting at what he called the studio’s “next crazy thing.” Though he remains tight-lipped on specifics, Vincke emphasized that BG3’s success enabled the team to push boundaries for this new project.

While Vincke didn’t offer concrete clues about the upcoming title, he made it clear that fans will need to wait:

“How that will pan out is anyone’s guess… we’re working hard to ensure you’ll have plenty of fun… in a surprising way.”

Publishing director Michael Douse echoed the sentiment, humorously adding that “this shit ain’t cooked in an air fryer bro” when pressed on release timing.

    What we already know:

    • No Baldur’s Gate  4 or DLC are in development. Instead, Larian is focused on two original-IP RPGs, including one known under the codename “Excalibur,” potentially an Arthurian‑inspired narrative.
    • Vincke described the upcoming title as “crazy‑ambitious”, large in scope, and said it will take “a lot more time in the oven” before release.
    • The studio is currently “deep in the trenches” with development and expects to deliver one of the new games before 2030.

Baldur’s Gate 3 was not just a massive critical success—it sold over 10 million copies by early 2025 and won multiple Game of the Year awards. That achievement has positioned Larian as a premier RPG developer—and it’s clear the studio wants to capitalize on that momentum by creating something equally bold and original, without relying on the D&D license.

Former Baldur’s Gate 3 actor Neil Newbon (Astarion) applauded Larian’s decision to move on, agreeing it was the right creative choice and voicing anticipation for who might continue the franchise under license. Meanwhile, Hasbro and Wizards of the Coast are reportedly exploring new partnerships to handle a potential Baldur’s Gate 4.

Larian’s next project remains intriguing yet deliberately mysterious. Swen Vincke’s public statements reinforce the message: this isn’t something to rush—it’s intended to deliver the quality and novelty fans now expect. And while details are scarce, it’s clear the studio is striving to surpass even BG3 in scale and ambition.

Gamers should buckle up and stay patient—the wait will likely be worth it.
