The Horizon franchise has steadily grown into one of PlayStation’s most ambitious worlds, blending breathtaking landscapes with fierce mechanical creatures.

Sony has officially confirmed the long-rumored Horizon Steel Frontiers MMO, developed with NCSoft. The title brings the acclaimed Horizon universe into the world of massive online multiplayer gameplay, offering a cross-platform experience on PC, iOS, and Android.
Designed as a free-to-play adventure, Horizon Steel Frontiers MMO aims to let players explore a vast post-apocalyptic world together, filled with the franchise’s signature mechanical beasts and survival-driven challenges.
Importance: The reveal of Horizon Steel Frontiers MMO signals Sony’s bold move into mobile and online gaming, expanding the Horizon universe and redefining how PlayStation franchises evolve beyond consoles.

Inspiration From Arizona And New Mexico
According to the official announcement video revealed at Korea’s G-Star 2025 event, Horizon Steel Frontiers MMO is being built from the ground up specifically for mobile by NCSoft, with close involvement from Guerrilla Games.
The game transports players to a new region known as the Deathlands—inspired by Arizona and New Mexico—where they will step into the role of machine hunters navigating a shared, living world populated by thousands of other players.
Character Customization Steel Frontiers
Unlike the mainline games starring Aloy, this installment focuses on full character customization, allowing players to create their own hunters and tribes. Developers described the experience as a mix of cooperation & competition, where players can team up to take down colossal machines or battle rival tribes over resources.
The pre-alpha footage showcased dynamic combat, resource gathering, and the ability to pick up dropped machine weapons for future encounters.
While no release date has been confirmed, NCSoft’s executive producer Sung-Gu Lee assured fans that the team is working to bring Horizon Steel Frontiers MMO to players “as soon as possible.”
