XDefiant took the internet by storm when it launched, making it the biggest Ubisoft launch ever. However, the game has been riddled with bugs, which has recently been addressed by an executive producer of the game.

Mark Rubin, executive producer of XDefiant, recently revealed that the game has been built on an MMO engine and has faced significant challenges. He also told players to move on if they cannot handle the game’s bugs.

Importance: Bugs are a massive hindrance to smooth gameplay and can deter many players from continuing with a game. Therefore, fixing these issues as soon as possible is crucial for the game’s longevity.

Responding to a user on Twitter who felt the game had been rushed, Rubin explained that the engine they are using has only ever been an MMO engine. Therefore, they had to build the entire infrastructure for an FPS from scratch.

He further pointed out that even Call of Duty started on ID Tech, which was a shooter engine, and Apex also began on a shooter engine. In contrast, they are developing entirely new technology in an engine designed for something else.

Rubin acknowledged the difficulties and bugs that come with using an MMO engine for a first-person shooter.

“The engine is really great but it does require a lot of work and with that work comes a lot of bugs that other engines have already worked out.”

He also addressed player frustration, stating,

“We’re not a shooter that’s been out for 20 years. If you like what we are trying to do stick around and you’ll see things improve and new features get added. But if the game isn’t for you that’s ok you can move on.”

Rubin’s comments highlight the unique development challenges faced by XDefiant and underscore the team’s commitment to ongoing improvement despite the current issues.

We hope that the developers can fix the ongoing issues with XDefiant as soon as possible, as they are negatively affecting the game’s legacy. Ubisoft has confirmed long-term support for the game, so we can expect a better future for it.

We are excited and looking forward to how the future of the game will unfold. Until then, all we can do is wait.
