Fortnite’s Cheat Master Power Hours are live today, September 5, giving players two limited-time windows with increased Cheat Master Sprite spawns and additional match bonuses. Epic Games confirmed the event as part of Fortnite Override’s v42.10 update, with the first session running from 2 PM to 4 PM ET and a second scheduled for 9 PM to 11 PM ET. During both periods, players also receive free consumables when dropping from the Battle Bus and can find rare utility items in Chests.
Every player begins a Power Hours match with one Golden Apple, two Jellyfish and three Peppers already available. The starting items provide healing and mobility-related options immediately after landing, reducing the need to spend the opening minutes searching for basic consumables. These bonuses remain tied to the scheduled event windows rather than becoming permanent additions to the normal Fortnite loot setup.
The main attraction is the increased appearance rate for Cheat Master Sprites. Epic says the boost includes the newer Sprites introduced with update v42.10, making the Power Hours particularly useful for players still trying to complete their Sprite collection. Cheat Master variants are special versions of Fortnite’s collectible Sprites, and their increased availability gives players a concentrated opportunity to search for variants that can otherwise be difficult to encounter.
Chest loot also changes during the event. Epic has confirmed that 1-Up Tokens and Portable Extractors have a chance to appear when opening Chests, providing access to two of Fortnite Override’s more valuable utility items. A 1-Up Token allows a player to respawn with their full inventory after being eliminated, while a Portable Extractor can be used to extract an equipped Sprite from anywhere on the island.
The Portable Extractor is particularly useful during a Sprite-focused event because successful extraction permanently records progression associated with the collected Sprite and awards Sprite Dust. Ordinarily, players can extract using designated Extraction Sites or other available methods, but the portable item removes the need to travel to one of those locations. Finding one in a Chest therefore provides a safer option when carrying a rare Cheat Master variant that a player does not want to risk losing before extraction.
Today’s structure follows the format Epic used for Fortnite’s recent Sonic Power Hours, which similarly increased selected Sprite appearances and added rare 1-Up Tokens and Portable Extractors to Chests. The September 5 event shifts the emphasis away from Sonic-themed Sprites and toward the broader Cheat Master pool while replacing the earlier starting setup with a collection of food consumables.
The event arrives shortly after Fortnite’s v42.10 update expanded the Sprite system. That update introduced new Sprites including X-Ray, Onigiri, Overshield and Mega Man, alongside additional variants and a new Sprite Mastery reward track. Epic also reduced the Sprite Dust cost required to resummon a Sprite after it has been mastered, making long-term collection and progression less expensive.
Cheat Master variants form part of that broader progression system. Sprites gain levels through activities such as opening containers, eliminating opponents and completing extractions, while successfully extracting a max-level Sprite can permanently master it. The current Power Hours do not remove those progression requirements, but the increased spawn rate makes finding the desired variants less dependent on normal match-to-match luck.
Epic has scheduled two separate sessions rather than running the modifiers throughout the entire day. The first takes place from 2 PM to 4 PM ET, equivalent to 6 PM to 8 PM UTC, while the second runs from 9 PM to 11 PM ET on September 5, or 1 AM to 3 AM UTC on September 6. Outside those periods, the special starting consumables and Power Hours-specific spawn and Chest changes return to their normal behavior.
Fortnite Cheat Master Power Hours therefore offer four total hours of boosted opportunities across September 5 and early September 6 UTC. Players hunting Cheat Master Sprites can use the increased spawn rates while prioritizing Chests for 1-Up Tokens and Portable Extractors, with the latter providing a direct way to secure valuable Sprite finds before the limited-time bonuses end.
