Fortnite’s Mega Man collaboration appears to be entering its final pre-release phase, with newly surfaced teaser material providing a first look at Zero. Dataminers including FireMonkey and ShiinaBR shared the teaser on September 7, with FireMonkey saying the crossover is “right around the corner.” Mega Man’s arrival in Fortnite is already official, but Epic Games has not yet formally announced Zero as an outfit or confirmed the leaked September 8 Item Shop release date.
The teaser is significant because the identities of two additional characters in the encrypted Mega Man cosmetic set had remained unclear. Datamining from the v42.10 update previously indicated that the collaboration contains three playable skins, but only Mega Man himself had been established with confidence. Zero’s appearance now provides the clearest evidence yet for at least one of those mystery slots.
Zero is one of the central characters from the Mega Man X branch of Capcom’s franchise, first appearing in Mega Man X in 1993. The character’s distinctive red armor, long blond hair and energy sword make him visually easy to distinguish from the classic Mega Man design. The teaser therefore substantially narrows the remaining uncertainty surrounding Fortnite’s three-character lineup, although it still does not establish the identity of the third skin.

Earlier speculation had focused on several possibilities, including X, Proto Man and Bass. Fortnite’s Chapter 7 Season 4 key art also attracted attention because Jonesy appeared to be using a Mega Buster resembling X’s version rather than the classic design, leading players to suspect that Mega Man X characters could be represented in the collaboration. Zero appearing in the latest teaser strengthens that possibility, but Epic has not confirmed X as a playable cosmetic.
The broader cosmetic package has already been partially mapped through encrypted files. Previous datamining indicated that Mega Man will be joined by the Rush Sidekick, alongside multiple pickaxes, back blings, an emote and a spray. Leaked file information also points to alternate styles for the three skins, including options that appear to disable cel shading on some cosmetics.
Current datamined scheduling points to September 8 for the Item Shop release. The encrypted Mega Man cosmetics were expected to be decrypted on September 7, which would explain why new promotional material and character details are now beginning to surface. That timing also aligns with Fortnite’s leaked September roadmap, which places Mega Man-focused activity during the same part of the week.
Players should nevertheless distinguish that scheduling information from Epic’s official announcements. Epic confirmed Mega Man as one of the gaming franchises participating in Chapter 7 Season 4: Override when it revealed the season in August, but it did not provide an Item Shop date for the character cosmetics. The September 8 timing, bundle composition and remaining skin identity are therefore still based on datamined material unless Epic publishes additional details before the shop refresh.
Mega Man already has a presence in Override beyond cosmetics. The season’s promotional material included Mega Man imagery and a Mega Buster, while a Mega Man Sprite was added as part of Fortnite v42.10. The wider season is built around gaming crossovers, with characters and franchises including Sonic the Hedgehog, Persona 5, Kingdom Hearts, Crash Bandicoot and others appearing throughout its Battle Pass, Item Shop and gameplay content.
The latest teaser now gives the Mega Man collaboration a much clearer shape. Zero can be seen ahead of the expected launch, while encrypted data continues to point toward three skins and a larger cosmetic bundle containing Rush and several accessories. If the leaked scheduling remains accurate, the complete lineup, prices and styles should become visible when the Mega Man cosmetics arrive around the September 8 Item Shop rotation.
