Capcom is bringing three of its modern Resident Evil remakes to Nintendo Switch 2 on October 16, 2026. Resident Evil 2 Deluxe Edition, Resident Evil 3 and Resident Evil 4 Gold Edition were announced during Nintendo’s September 9 Direct and will all be released digitally on the same day. The move gives Switch 2 owners dedicated versions of three major entries that were previously available on the original Switch only through cloud streaming.
Resident Evil 2 Deluxe Edition includes the 2019 remake alongside its Extra DLC Pack. That package adds alternate costumes for Leon and Claire, the Albert Model Samurai Edge weapon and the option to swap in the original game’s soundtrack. The remake itself follows Leon S. Kennedy and Claire Redfield through the Raccoon City outbreak, rebuilding the 1998 classic around an over-the-shoulder perspective, redesigned environments and the RE Engine.
Resident Evil 3 follows with Capcom’s 2020 remake of Jill Valentine’s escape from Raccoon City while being pursued by Nemesis. The game retells the events surrounding Resident Evil 3: Nemesis with modern controls, visuals and a more action-focused structure than Resident Evil 2. Nintendo and Capcom have not yet detailed whether the Switch 2 release will include every piece of ancillary content associated with previous console bundles, so the confirmed package should be treated simply as Resident Evil 3 unless further information is provided.

The third release is Resident Evil 4 Gold Edition, the expanded version of Capcom’s 2023 remake. Gold Edition combines the main game with the Separate Ways story expansion and the Extra DLC Pack, while The Mercenaries mode is available separately as free content on existing platforms. Resident Evil 4 follows Leon several years after Raccoon City as he travels to rural Europe to rescue the U.S. president’s kidnapped daughter.
Together, the three games cover a substantial stretch of Resident Evil’s modern remake timeline. Resident Evil 2 established the format Capcom would continue refining, Resident Evil 3 returned to Raccoon City from Jill’s perspective, and Resident Evil 4 pushed the formula into more action-heavy territory while preserving the remake series’ modern presentation. Their simultaneous Switch 2 launch gives Nintendo players a straightforward way to move through that sequence on one system.
The announcement is especially notable because the original Switch versions relied on cloud technology. Resident Evil 2 Cloud, Resident Evil 3 Cloud and Resident Evil 4 Cloud allowed the games to run on Nintendo’s older hardware by streaming gameplay from remote servers rather than executing the full game locally. The newly announced Switch 2 releases are being sold as dedicated digital versions for Nintendo’s newer console, removing that cloud-only framing from the announcement.
Capcom has not yet published detailed performance specifications for the three Switch 2 ports. Resolution targets, frame rates, graphical settings and any use of Switch 2-specific features remain unconfirmed. Those details will be important given how demanding the RE Engine games can be compared with software originally designed around Nintendo’s previous hardware.
The releases also expand Capcom’s broader support for Switch 2. Several major games that either skipped the original Switch or arrived through alternative solutions are now receiving more conventional versions for Nintendo’s current system. That trend has helped close some of the platform gap that existed during the previous generation.
Resident Evil remains one of Capcom’s most active franchises, with newer releases continuing alongside remakes and ports of older entries. Reports surrounding a possible Resident Evil Code: Veronica remake have persisted separately, although Capcom has not tied that project to the October Switch 2 lineup. For now, the confirmed focus is on bringing the remakes of Resident Evil 2, 3 and 4 to Nintendo’s current hardware.
Resident Evil 2 Deluxe Edition, Resident Evil 3 and Resident Evil 4 Gold Edition will all launch digitally for Nintendo Switch 2 on October 16, 2026. Pricing, download sizes and final technical specifications have not yet been announced.
