Escape from Tarkov update 1.2.0.0 is rolling out with one of the game’s largest PvE overhauls to date, finally bringing Prestige progression to the PvE Zone while substantially reworking AI-controlled PMCs. Battlestate Games began deploying the patch on October 6, with the update also introducing the EXFIL Brothers referral program, location changes, quality-of-life improvements and a long list of fixes. The biggest changes are concentrated around PvE progression and making AI-controlled opponents behave more like human players.
PvE Prestige now gives long-term players six progression levels to work through. Reaching a new Prestige level requires meeting conditions that can include a sufficiently high character level, completing specific tasks, building certain Hideout zones, finishing the main storyline, possessing required items or money and leveling character skills. The first PvE Prestige reset has reduced requirements compared with its PvP equivalent, giving established PvE players a somewhat easier entry into the system.
Prestiging resets the PvE profile while allowing players to retain portions of their previous progress. Battlestate says some gear, character skills and weapon mastery can carry forward, with retained skill and mastery progress reaching up to 50% depending on the Prestige level. Certain rewards earned through PvE Prestige can also be used across game modes, including TarCoins, unique dogtags, Hideout decorations, melee weapons, figurines and a special Gamma secure container.

The update also significantly changes PMC bot behavior. USEC and BEAR bots now have a much higher chance of cooperating rather than immediately attacking each other, while individual PMC bots can occasionally remain neutral toward the player until approached or threatened. AI PMCs are also more likely to fight Scavs and bosses, while Player Scavs will generally not be attacked first unless they move too close or become aggressive.
Bot equipment and difficulty now scale more closely with their level and faction. Lower-level PMCs use equipment more appropriate for early trader Loyalty Levels and should present less of a threat, while high-level bots carry stronger weapons and armor and are intended to be substantially more dangerous. Their spawn logic and level distribution have also been adjusted so difficult locations are less likely to contain implausibly underleveled AI PMCs.
Another major addition is EXFIL Brothers, a mentoring-style system built around pairing experienced Operators with new Candidates. Eligible Operators can invite newer players through a referral link, and both players receive a 5% experience bonus while raiding together. Progression through the program unlocks additional rewards for both sides, with Candidates receiving resources intended to ease their early game and Operators gaining currencies, customization items and other bonuses.
Patch 1.2.0.0 also changes several locations. Customs receives additional extracts, new loot positions and two new keys, while locked containers are now guaranteed to contain loot in several areas. Interchange has similarly gained additional loot positions, reworked cash-register behavior and more containers, while Shoreline receives reworked environmental audio.
Quality-of-life improvements include better server-side position synchronization to reduce rubber-banding, a Ctrl+left-click shortcut for switching between buying and selling at traders, friend-list pinning and a clearer visual indicator for Run-Through extraction status. Drum magazine handling has also been improved, players can inspect their own PMC dogtag from the character screen, and profiles can now display a selected storyline ending.
The Expansion Hub receives its own notable change, with Battlestate adding the ability to purchase in-game roubles with real money for PvE Zone profiles. The studio has kept that feature away from PvP, where selling currency directly could have much more significant competitive implications. New USEC Tony and BEAR Den voice packs have also been added through the Expansion Hub.
The patch lands during a busy period for the wider Tarkov ecosystem, with Escape from Tarkov Arena Season 3 also scheduled for late October with a new Lab-themed map, BlastGang changes and another Battle Pass. For main-game PvE players, however, update 1.2.0.0 is the more fundamental progression change.
Battlestate has also fixed issues ranging from PvE loading failures and bot vision through transparent surfaces to incorrect lighting, broken transitions and geometry problems across multiple locations. Combined with Prestige, the AI overhaul and EXFIL Brothers, update 1.2.0.0 meaningfully changes how long-term PvE progression works rather than simply adding another batch of balance tweaks.
