Gateron has launched the KS-33 Low Profile Silent 3.0 Black, a heavier linear mechanical keyboard switch aimed at users who want a quieter low-profile board without giving up the travel characteristics of the company’s latest KS-33 platform. The Black model uses a 50±15gf operating force, 1.7±0.4mm pre-travel and a maximum total travel distance of 3.4mm. Gateron is selling the new switch alongside lighter Red and White variants in the same Silent 3.0 family.
The Black version is the heaviest option in the lineup. Gateron rates the Silent 3.0 White at 35±15gf and the Red at 45±15gf, while the Black increases that figure to 50±15gf for users who prefer more resistance under each key. All three are linear switches, so the press remains smooth rather than adding a tactile bump or click before actuation.
That heavier spring makes the Black model particularly relevant for users who find very light low-profile switches too easy to trigger accidentally. A 50gf operating force is still within familiar mechanical-keyboard territory, but it gives the switch more resistance than the other Silent 3.0 options while retaining the relatively short movement associated with low-profile boards. For gaming, that means a shorter actuation path than many traditional full-height mechanical switches without moving all the way toward extremely light or ultra-short competitive switches.

Gateron uses a POM stem, transparent polycarbonate upper housing and black nylon bottom housing. The switch is factory lubricated and uses a five-pin mounting design, while the transparent upper housing is compatible with SMD backlighting. Those material choices broadly follow the construction Gateron uses across its recent low-profile switch families, with factory lubrication intended to provide a smoother feel without requiring users to open and lubricate each switch manually.
The main distinction is the Silent 3.0 positioning. Gateron’s silent low-profile designs use internal damping to reduce impact noise from both the downward press and the return stroke, targeting users who want mechanical switches in shared offices, bedrooms or other noise-sensitive environments. The quieter design does not make the keyboard itself completely silent, since case construction, stabilizers, keycaps and typing force still influence the final sound.
One notable change over Gateron’s Silent 2.0 family is the longer travel of the newer design. Silent 2.0 switches use roughly 1.7mm pre-travel and 3.0mm total travel, while the Silent 3.0 Black keeps the same approximate actuation point but increases maximum travel to 3.4mm. That gives the new model more movement after actuation and brings its travel in line with the broader KS-33 Low Profile 3.0 family.
Compatibility is more restrictive than simply identifying the switch as low-profile. Gateron specifically lists the KS-33 Low Profile 3.0 platform for keyboards including the NuPhy Nos75, Kick75, Air75 V3 and Node75, and buyers should not assume it will fit every low-profile hot-swap keyboard. Low-profile switch ecosystems differ in socket, mounting and keycap compatibility, so checking the exact keyboard model remains important before replacing a full set.
Gateron currently lists the KS-33 Low Profile Silent 3.0 family in packs of 35 and 110 switches, with the 35-pack priced at $14 through its official store. Red, White and Black versions are offered under the same product listing, allowing users to choose between lighter and heavier linear weighting without moving to a different switch platform.
The Silent 3.0 Black therefore fills a fairly specific position in Gateron’s range: a quiet, heavier linear switch for compatible low-profile mechanical keyboards. Its 50gf operating force separates it from the lighter Red and White versions, while the 1.7mm actuation distance and 3.4mm travel preserve the faster, shorter feel that defines the company’s latest low-profile platform.
