Electronic Arts has confirmed that Respawn Entertainment and DICE are collaborating on a new project, with reports identifying the unannounced game as Star Wars Battlefront 3. The collaboration was disclosed in an October 21, 2026, restructuring announcement, although EA stopped short of officially naming the project or confirming a new Battlefront installment.
In its announcement, titled Building EA’s Next Chapter, EA outlined changes to its development portfolio and future investment priorities. The company confirmed that its shooter division would continue developing Battlefield titles while bringing Respawn and DICE together for an additional project.
EA president and chief studios officer Cam Weber and president and COO David Tinson described the collaboration as part of a broader strategy to expand the publisher’s shooter lineup. The executives pointed to Battlefield 6’s performance and lessons learned from its live-service operations as factors influencing future development.

While EA did not identify the collaboration by name, Variety independently reported that multiple sources confirmed the project is Star Wars Battlefront 3 for Lucasfilm. The report provides more substantial evidence for the game’s existence than earlier speculation, although an official announcement from EA or Lucasfilm remains outstanding.
The development follows rumors that emerged earlier this week about a potential revival of the Star Wars Battlefront franchise. Electronic Gaming Monthly’s revived Quartermann rumor column suggested that Lucasfilm was exploring development partners for another Battlefront game, with DICE and Bungie mentioned as possibilities.
Those claims were followed by comments from Joe Brammer, CEO of Bulkhead, the developer behind WARDOGS. Responding to discussion about the rumored sequel, Brammer said he had heard that DICE and Respawn were working together on Battlefront 3. His comments circulated on October 20, a day before EA publicly confirmed the collaboration between the two studios.
DICE developed EA’s Star Wars Battlefront reboot in 2015 and its sequel, Star Wars Battlefront II, in 2017. The latter remains the most recent major installment in the multiplayer shooter series, which features large-scale battles across locations and eras from the Star Wars universe.
Respawn, meanwhile, has experience with both competitive shooters and Star Wars games. The studio developed Titanfall and Apex Legends alongside Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order and Star Wars Jedi: Survivor. EA’s October 21 announcement also confirmed continued investment in Apex Legends and reiterated its commitment to the next Star Wars Jedi game.
The reported Battlefront project is being discussed amid significant changes across EA’s studios. The same restructuring announcement confirmed the closure of BioWare and the cancellation of its next Mass Effect game, illustrating how the publisher is concentrating resources on a smaller selection of projects.
EA’s wider Star Wars portfolio also includes projects outside the Battlefront franchise. Bit Reactor has recently begun bringing developers back to Star Wars: Zero Company following a period in which much of its team was furloughed.
Despite the new reporting, important details about Battlefront 3 remain unknown. Neither EA nor Lucasfilm has announced a release window, supported platforms, gameplay features or how development responsibilities would be divided between DICE and Respawn. EA has also not publicly confirmed whether the project will use the Battlefront 3 name.
For now, the collaboration between DICE and Respawn is officially confirmed, while its identification as Star Wars Battlefront 3 rests on independent reporting. EA says it will share further information about the project at a later date.
