Call of Duty has remained one of the longest-running franchises in the gaming world. The first game in the series launched back in 2003, and since then, it has continued to reach new milestones.

With such a long history of consistent releases, Call of Duty developers have tested out different gameplay mechanics over the years. While many of these gameplay experiments were met with success, the same cannot be said for all of them.

Jetpacks and wall-running were among those experimental features introduced by the developers, which received a largely negative reaction from fans. The main reasons were their deviation from the classic Call of Duty formula and the wide skill gap these mechanics introduced.

A recent poll was conducted to find out whether players wanted these features to make a comeback, and the results turned out to be unexpected. The poll received over 13,000 votes, and roughly 35% of participants expressed interest in seeing jetpacks or wall-running return in future titles, which was higher than anticipated.

Importance: Although the majority still doesn’t support the return of these mechanics, the fact that 35% do is surprising—especially considering the heavy backlash these features received when first introduced, which played a major role in the failure of Infinite Warfare.

65% of players said that they don’t want jet packs or wall running to return to Call of Duty.

Call of Duty’s shift toward advanced futuristic mechanics marked a major break from its traditional gameplay style. These enhanced movement features were first introduced in Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare in 2014, carried into Black Ops 3 in 2015, and eventually phased out after Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare in 2016.

The primary reason behind this shift away from futuristic gameplay was the overwhelming negative reception of Infinite Warfare. The game struggled to win over players, many of whom had grown tired of the repeated futuristic settings and unpopular movement systems.

However, the recent poll showing a more positive feedback on these mechanics could open the door for developers to revisit them. If refined into a more accessible and player-friendly format, it’s possible that the broader community might begin to accept them.

This scenario might not be too far from reality, as rumors suggest that the upcoming Call of Duty title could bring back jetpacks and wall-running. Reportedly, the new game is a sequel to Black Ops 2 and will take place in a near-future setting during the 2030s.

That said, it’s important to treat this information cautiously, as none of it has been officially confirmed. For a clearer picture, it’s best to wait for official announcements. Based on the series’ usual reveal timeline, the announcement for Call of Duty 2025 may not be too far away.

On that note, are you looking forward to the next Call of Duty game? Do you support the return of wall-running and jetpacks? Share your thoughts in the comments!
