Sonic Adventure remains one of the most iconic entries in the blue blur’s long-running franchise, remembered fondly for its bold transition into 3D and its unforgettable Dreamcast legacy.

With the rise of modern remasters and a renewed interest in retro classics on current-gen consoles like the PS5, many fans have wondered whether SEGA would revisit this fan-favorite title. The conversation around its potential return has only grown louder in recent years—and now, there’s finally an update.

In recent statement that may disappoint long-time fans, SEGA has confirmed that there are currently no plans for remasters to Sonic Adventure or its sequel for the PS5. While calls for a modern re-release of the Dreamcast classics have been growing louder.

This perspective was shared by Takahashi Iizuka, head of Sonic team, during a recent interview where he addressed fan interest in potential remasters.

Importance: This sentiment highlights SEGA’s current strategy of prioritizing new experiences over revisiting older ones, especially when the resources needed for a remaster rival those of a full-fledge modern release.

Takahashi Iizuka Responds To Fan Demands

Sonic Team boss Takahashi Iizuka acknowledged the frequent fan request for Sonic Adventure remasters on PS5, expressing his gratitude for the ongoing support. However, he explained that bringing the game’s up to today’s standards would demand a level of development similar to creating new one.

PS3 Port Vs. PS5 Sonic Adventure Remasters Availability

With that in mind, Iizuka suggested that his focus might be better placed on building something rather new than revisiting the past. While the original titles were previously ported to the PS3, they remain unavailable as native releases on PS5—leaving fans with a little hope of a revival anytime soon.

Recently SEGA has also removed several retro titles for digital storefronts like the iOS App Store and delisted its Mega Drive & Genesis Classics collection, fueling speculation about a possible overhaul or new approach to its classic game lineup.

The effort needed to remaster Sonic Adventure equals developing a brand-new game

While SEGA focuses on new Sonic Adventures, fans are left wondering—would you prefer a full remaster of Sonic Adventure, or are fresh experiences better way forward?
