The Marvel’s cinematic universe is heading into uncharted territory as Avengers: Doomsday shapes up to be one of the most ambitious crossover events in the franchise’s history.
With an ensemble cast of returning heroes, multiverse-spanning stakes, and the Russo brothers at the helm, the film promises massive twists for both new and familiar characters.
Just yesterday, we explored how Doctor Doom might set his sights on annihilating the TVA in Avengers: Doomsday, and today’s buzz points to another game-changing development.
A new insider leak suggests that Avengers: Doomsday will expand powers of Shang-Chi beyond what fans saw in his solo debut. According to the report, the Master of Kung Fu will wield the ability to create multiple versions of himself.
Importance: If true, this upgrade could significantly elevate role of Shang-Chi in Avengers: Doomsday, giving him visually spectacular and tactically versatile powers that stand out in large-scale battles. It also signals Marvel’s willingness to revisit and repurpose scrapped ideas.

The Lost Ability: Shang-Chi’s Untapped Power
Back in 2021, Marvel Studio’s visual development head Andy Park revealed concept art showing Shang-Chi harnessing the Ten Rings to form numerous duplicates of himself. While this concept didn’t make it into the theatrical release, the idea is suspected to resurface in Avengers: Doomsday.
In the comics, specifically during the Time Runs Out storyline leading into Secret Wars (2015). Shang-Chi temporarily gained this duplication power after being exposed to cosmic radiation at an “Incursion point” in Japan—a phenomenon caused by universes colliding.
New Visuals Meet Comic Lore
This power was a short-lived upgrade, unrelated to the Ten Rings, but it played a pivotal role in that arc. The film’s rumored approach seems to blend the visual concept from the solo movie with the comic book precedent, giving Shang-Chi a striking new edge.

Avengers: Doomsday marks a major turning point in the MCU, featuring an all-star cash and high-stakes multiverse threats, with Kevin Frige confirming ongoing script changes to deliver an epic conclusion to the current saga.
