As the gaming landscape continues to evolve, so does the way players engage with their favorite consoles and games. The intersection of nostalgia and innovation has become a driving force, with many looking for ways to merge classic gaming experiences with the latest technology. With the resurgence of retro titles and classic controllers, gaming companies are finding creative ways to offer familiar experiences on new-generation platforms.

For many, the iconic GameCube controller is a symbol of nostalgic gameplay, and with the upcoming launch of Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo is offering a new way for players to relive those experiences with a modern twist. The introduction of a wireless GameCube controller for the Switch 2, is set to elevate how fans enjoy classic GameCube titles on the new system.

The wireless GameCube controller, designed exclusively for the Nintendo Switch 2, is now available for preorder to Nintendo Switch Online members. Priced at $64.99, the controller is limited to one unit per account, helping it stay in stock for a few hours since its release. Those who preorder will receive the controller on the Switch 2’s launch date.

Importance: The wireless controller for the Switch 2 blends nostalgia with modern gaming, appealing to both old and new players. It exclusive release on My Nintendo Store and integration with the Switch Online Expansion Pack strengthens Nintendo’s online ecosystem, boosting membership and engagement with classic games. This move could influence future trends in gaming accessories and online services.

Supported titles like The Wind Waker return via the Switch Online Expansion Pack

With high demand for the wireless GameCube controller, you may need to wait in a virtual queue for about half an hour before you can complete your purchase, so be sure to stay on the page. The controller is set to launch on June 5th, and it will be compatible with GameCube titles available through Switch Online Expansion Pack tier, offering a nostalgic gaming experience on the new platform.

The GameCube controller features USB-C charging and includes a dedicated C button for activating GameChat, a voice chat feature. Nintendo Switch 2 owners can enjoy GameChat free of charge until March 31st, 2026, offering an added layer of connectivity for multiplayer experiences.

Switch 2 GameCube Controller Supports Select Titles Only

Unlike the original Switch, which supported GameCube controllers through adapters or third-party USB versions, the new wireless GameCube controller for Switch 2 offers more limited compatibility. It won’t work with backward-compatible titles like Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, as support hasn’t been confirmed. Instead, it’s designed for GameCube games available on the Switch Online Expansion Pack.

Nintendo Attributes Cautious Switch 2 Forecast To Pricing

Building on its focused approach to platform continuity and strategic accessory releases, Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa cited the Switch 2’s relatively high price as a key reason for the company’s lower-than-expected sales forecast of 15 million units during its launch window, despite strong preorders and positive feedback. He emphasized that production capacity or U.S. tariffs did not influence the projection and that Nintendo aims to boost early adoption through software bundles and compatibility with existing Switch titles.

Switch 2 launches June 5 with a focus on continuity and upgraded user experience

Will the blend of nostalgic accessories, like the wireless GameCube controller, and strategic pricing be enough to drive strong early adoption of the Switch 2? Or will the console’s higher cost pose a greater challenge than expected?
