Fans of stealth action have been eagerly waiting for Ubisoft to revive one of its most iconic franchises, Splinter Cell. With the promise of a faithful yet modern remake of the original classic, expectations have been sky-high.
However, recent developments suggest that the project’s journey might not be as smooth as fans had hoped.
The Splinter Cell remake director has reportedly departed from the project, marking yet another setback for Ubisoft’s long-awaited revival of the stealth action classic.
A recently spotted Ubisoft Toronto job listing for a new Game Director hinted at the leadership change before it was taken down, suggesting ongoing development turbulence behind the scenes.
Importance: The exit of the Splinter Cell remake director signals deeper issues within Ubisoft’s leadership and project management, potentially delaying the franchise’s long-awaited comeback.

Ubisoft Posts New Director Role
According to reports, Ubisoft briefly posted a new Game Director position for the Splinter Cell remake on its official website, confirming that the previous Splinter Cell remake director has exited the project.
This follows the departure of David Grivel, the original director, who left Ubisoft in 2022 after more than a decade with the company. The job description mentioned responsibilities such as leading the development team and shaping new gameplay features, implying that production is still in its formative stages.
Since its announcement in 2021, the remake has yet to show any gameplay footage or significant updates, raising concerns about its progress.

Splinter Cell Series Gains New Life
Meanwhile, the franchise has seen renewed attention through Splinter Cell: Deathwatch, the Netflix animated series from John Wick creator Derek Kolstad, which was recently renewed for a second season—keeping the hope for Sam Fisher’s return alive despite the game’s uncertain future.
