Infinity Ward has removed Tactical Sprint from Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4’s default movement system for the second beta weekend, moving the mechanic into the Blood Rush perk instead.
The change was confirmed in Infinity Ward’s official August 28 beta patch notes and follows player feedback from the first weekend of testing. The studio says removing Tactical Sprint from the default movement set should improve the pace of combat and give Modern Warfare 4 a more classic Call of Duty feel.
Players who still want access to Tactical Sprint can equip Blood Rush.
Infinity Ward has also changed how the faster sprint behaves when the perk is active. Tactical Sprint’s sprint-to-fire time has been reduced so it now matches the standard sprint, although its movement speed has been cut by 4%.
The studio stressed that the change is currently an experiment for the beta rather than a guaranteed feature of the final game.
If Infinity Ward decides to keep Tactical Sprint perk-exclusive, it says it will need to reconsider Blood Rush’s position within the perk system and how the change interacts with other available perks before launch.
Tactical Sprint is not the only movement mechanic being adjusted for Weekend Two.
Slide distance has been reduced by 10%, while slide speed has been cut by 9%. Infinity Ward has also increased the delay between sliding and jumping, making repeated slide-to-jump movement less immediate than it was during the first beta weekend.
Overall stamina has been reduced by 8%.
At the same time, base sprint speeds have been increased when players are holding pistols or knives, giving those weapon categories a stronger movement advantage without relying on Tactical Sprint.
Infinity Ward has also fixed an issue that allowed players to mantle significantly higher than intended and addressed stuttering that could occur while climbing ladders and pipes.
Together, the changes represent a clear attempt to reduce some of the faster movement combinations available during the first weekend without removing mobility entirely.
The studio is also making broader combat changes based on beta feedback.
Every weapon available in the beta has received tuning for Weekend Two as Infinity Ward attempts to slightly increase time-to-kill. Rather than increasing base player health, the developer has adjusted individual weapons to create more survivability while trying to preserve their effectiveness at longer ranges.
Aim assist has also been reduced.
Infinity Ward says the current aim-assist values are not necessarily its intended launch settings, with further tuning planned before release. Those changes also apply to Warzone.
Spawn logic has received another pass as well. Infinity Ward has reduced the likelihood of players spawning near squadmates, made adjustments intended to separate opposing players more effectively and introduced changes to Hardpoint spawns.
Battle Hardened has also been added temporarily after spawning to reduce the immediate effects of flash and concussion grenades.
The Tactical Sprint change is particularly significant because movement has become one of the most debated aspects of recent Call of Duty games.
Modern Warfare 4 already moves away from the Omnimovement system used in recent Black Ops releases, and restricting Tactical Sprint further separates Infinity Ward’s new game from the faster movement style seen elsewhere in the series.
The developer’s explanation suggests it wants standard sprinting to become the foundation of multiplayer movement again, while allowing players who prefer a faster playstyle to specifically build around it.
The changes are now live as part of Modern Warfare 4’s second Open Beta weekend.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 is scheduled to launch on October 23, 2026 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC and Nintendo Switch 2.
Whether Tactical Sprint remains perk-exclusive at launch will ultimately depend on how players respond during the remainder of the beta.
