Rockstar Games has once again reaffirmed that Grand Theft Auto VI will launch on November 19, 2026, with Rockstar North co-studio head Rob Nelson saying the game will “definitely” release on that date.
Nelson made the comment during a new interview with Japanese outlet Famitsu following Rockstar’s latest GTA VI preview.
Asked whether players could feel confident about the currently announced release date, Nelson laughed and said the game would definitely be released.
The reassurance comes after GTA VI experienced multiple delays during development, making the November date one of the biggest remaining questions surrounding the game.
Rockstar originally planned to launch GTA VI in 2025.
The game was later moved to May 26, 2026 before Rockstar announced another delay, setting the current November 19 date.
Since then, Rockstar and parent company Take-Two Interactive have repeatedly listed November 19 across official material.
Rockstar’s own GTA VI website continues to display the date prominently, while the Rockstar Store lists November 19 as the game’s release date for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
Pre-orders have also opened around that schedule.
Digital buyers will be able to begin pre-loading GTA VI on November 12, one week before launch, according to Rockstar’s official preorder information.
Nelson’s latest comments add direct reassurance from one of the senior developers overseeing the project.
He also discussed GTA VI’s current development status with Famitsu, explaining that Rockstar is still refining the game despite being pleased with where it stands.
Nelson described GTA VI as extremely complex, with numerous interconnected systems operating simultaneously.
He said he is proud of how Rockstar’s development teams have collaborated to make those systems work together.
Development is now focused on further refinement and ensuring the game runs as smoothly and reliably as possible when it reaches players.
That type of optimization work is expected at this stage of a large open-world production, particularly for a game attempting to simulate as many interconnected systems as GTA VI.
Rockstar’s recent Extended Look demonstrated some of that complexity.
The nearly 27-minute presentation showed Jason and Lucia moving through a dense version of Vice City and the wider state of Leonida, with systems covering police behavior, character progression, vehicles, businesses, interiors and open-world activities.
Rockstar has also used a series of international interviews to explain how much larger and more interconnected GTA VI has become compared with its previous games.
Nelson previously said conceptual development began around 2015 before entire Rockstar teams increasingly shifted onto the project around 2020.
The company has grown substantially during that period, with different studios now contributing specialized work across GTA VI’s world.
That scale makes stability and performance particularly important.
Every system interacting with NPCs, traffic, police, missions and environmental simulation has to function consistently across a huge open world.
Nelson’s comments suggest Rockstar is now concentrating heavily on that refinement rather than making fundamental changes to the game’s direction.
There is still no official breakdown of GTA VI’s final console performance targets.
Rockstar has shown the game running on PlayStation 5, and the Extended Look was captured entirely from in-game footage on Sony’s standard console.
The game is also confirmed as PS5 Pro Enhanced, though Rockstar and Sony have not yet detailed exactly what those enhancements will include.
For now, Rockstar’s message about the release schedule remains consistent.
Grand Theft Auto VI launches November 19, 2026 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, and Nelson’s latest comments make clear that Rockstar is still working toward that date while polishing performance and stability for launch.
