Halloween: The Game Reveals East Haddonfield Map

IllFonic has revealed the East Haddonfield map for Halloween: The Game, giving players their first detailed look at one of the locations where Michael Myers will hunt survivors. The map moves away from the franchise’s familiar suburban streets and into a more open industrial and rural area built around a large grain mill. The reveal comes directly from IllFonic design director Jordan Mathewson through PlayStation Blog ahead of the game’s September 8 release.

East Haddonfield is designed to expand the setting beyond the residential neighborhoods most closely associated with the original 1978 film. IllFonic says the area includes the grain mill, silos, storage buildings, farmland, highways and train tracks, creating a different kind of playspace from the more tightly packed urban maps. The location also includes the Rabbit in Red Lounge and Phelps Garage, both of which should be recognizable to longtime Halloween fans.

The layout is intended to change how survivors move and hide. Uneven fencing, obstructed sight lines, tightly packed structures and a mixture of indoor and outdoor spaces are designed to create more unpredictable escape routes. The larger open sections can give survivors opportunities to put distance between themselves and Michael, but IllFonic warns that those routes can also leave players dangerously exposed.

Stealth remains a central part of the multiplayer design. East Haddonfield’s buildings, porches, farm equipment, parking areas and industrial spaces provide numerous places to break line of sight or attempt to move around Myers without being detected. IllFonic says the map was built to support more varied evasion tactics than players may encounter in the game’s denser residential areas.

Michael Myers is deliberately designed to remain the dominant threat regardless of the environment. Halloween: The Game uses a 1v4 asymmetrical structure in which Michael attempts to kill the other players while the survivors try to protect themselves and save as many people as possible. IllFonic says Michael becomes more powerful as a match progresses, increasing the pressure on survivors the longer they remain in the map.

The studio has also tried to make Michael’s movement and presence closely resemble his portrayal in the original film. Mathewson said the development team wanted him to feel dangerous whenever he appears, with his movement, abilities and kills all contributing to that sense of threat. Nick Castle, who portrayed Michael Myers in the 1978 movie, provided motion capture for the game and advised the developers on how to reproduce the character’s physical presence.

IllFonic also consulted people closely connected to the Halloween franchise while developing the game. The studio worked with Malek Akkad of Compass International Pictures and spoke with John Carpenter for his perspective on the project. According to Mathewson, that input influenced not only the multiplayer atmosphere but also the game’s story mode and its individual chapters.

East Haddonfield will appear in the story as well as the multiplayer experience. IllFonic says one of the game’s narrative chapters takes place on the map, linking its newly created areas back to the wider interpretation of Haddonfield. The developers used the original film as a visual reference for elements including camera work, lenses, color grading and the general look of the late 1970s.

Halloween: The Game launches on September 8 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC. The game supports both single-player and multiplayer, with online matches built around the same asymmetrical Michael-versus-survivors structure. On PS5, the game supports up to five online players, while Steam and Xbox listings similarly confirm multiplayer and cooperative features.

The East Haddonfield reveal shows how IllFonic is expanding beyond locations directly recreated from the films while still grounding the game in the original Halloween setting. By combining recognizable landmarks with new industrial and rural spaces, the studio is giving Michael and the survivors a map that should play differently from the franchise’s traditional suburban streets.
