Capcom has released new gameplay footage for Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance, offering a closer look at the expansion’s Boost Bracer system and how it changes the Great Sword. The new videos form part of Capcom’s Boosted Action Breakdown series, which is being used to demonstrate the additional weapon actions coming with the 2027 expansion.
The Boost Bracer is a new piece of equipment that expands the movesets of all 14 weapon types in Monster Hunter Wilds. Capcom first introduced the system when Ascendance was announced in June, describing it as a way to add new attacks, combos and movement options to each weapon. The latest footage provides a more focused demonstration of how those additions work rather than the brief examples shown in the expansion’s reveal trailer.
For the Great Sword, the Boost Bracer gives hunters additional ways to turn the weapon’s traditionally heavy attacks into faster offensive sequences. The footage shows the hunter using the Bracer’s propulsion to perform powerful slashing attacks and transition through movements more quickly than would normally be possible with the weapon. That creates another option for maintaining pressure while retaining the deliberate, high-damage identity of the Great Sword.
One of the most noticeable uses of the system is its ability to add movement to attacks that would otherwise leave a Great Sword user relatively committed to a position. The Boost Bracer can propel the hunter while attacking, allowing the player to reposition as part of an offensive action rather than relying solely on conventional movement between strikes. Capcom’s earlier footage also showed the system being used in different ways across weapons, suggesting the Bracer is not simply a universal damage boost.
The Great Sword demonstration is the first detailed example in a wider series dedicated to the expansion’s individual weapons. Capcom plans to continue releasing Boosted Action Breakdown videos, giving players a closer look at how the Boost Bracer affects the rest of Monster Hunter Wilds’ weapon roster. That approach mirrors the weapon overview videos Capcom released before the base game’s 2025 launch.
Ascendance will introduce the Boost Bracer alongside a broader set of additions centered on Master Rank content. The expansion takes hunters to the Skybound Eyrie, a new region featuring floating islands above the Forbidden Lands. Players will be able to travel between parts of the environment using their Seikret mounts, including gliding across gaps between elevated areas.
Capcom has also confirmed that Elder Dragons will play a major role in the expansion. Kushala Daora was among the returning monsters shown during the initial reveal, while the story centers on the sudden appearance of Elder Dragons throughout the Forbidden Lands. Ascendance becomes accessible after completing the seven-star quest “Awaking from a Dream” in the base game.
The new combat system is particularly significant because Master Rank traditionally introduces substantially tougher monsters and more demanding encounters to Monster Hunter expansions. Rather than relying entirely on existing weapon movesets, Capcom is giving every weapon a new set of options intended to complement the increased difficulty. Exactly how important the Boost Bracer becomes within optimal builds and combat strategies will depend on the individual weapon implementations and their eventual balance.
Players will soon get their first opportunity to test the system outside Capcom. Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance is scheduled to have its first public playable demo at Tokyo Game Show 2026, where several quests will showcase the expansion and its Boost Bracer mechanics. Capcom is also holding a 40-minute Tokyo Game Show Spotlight on September 16, with Ascendance among the major games represented in the company’s TGS lineup.
Capcom has not announced a specific release date for Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance beyond 2027. The expansion is currently confirmed for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC, while a Nintendo Switch 2 version of Monster Hunter Wilds is also in development. With the new weapon breakdown series now underway, Capcom is beginning to reveal in greater detail how Ascendance will alter the core hunting mechanics rather than simply adding new monsters and locations.
