ReStory Sales Pass 500,000 as Free Update Gets September 21 Date

ReStory: Chill Electronics Repairs has surpassed 500,000 copies sold, while developer Mandragora and publisher tinyBuild have confirmed that the game’s first free content update will arrive on September 21. The milestone was announced during tinyBuild Connect 2026, roughly five weeks after the repair-shop simulation launched on PC. The upcoming update will add new story content alongside another device for players to restore.

The sales figure continues a particularly strong launch for the indie simulation game. ReStory released on Steam on August 6 and passed 100,000 copies during its first day before reaching more than 300,000 sales within its first week. tinyBuild said at the time that the game had already broken even on its first day of sales and reached a peak concurrent player count of around 19,000.

ReStory is developed by Mandragora and puts players in charge of an electronics repair shop in mid-2000s Tokyo. Its restoration system revolves around disassembling, cleaning, repairing and rebuilding devices inspired by technology from the period, including game consoles, mobile phones, music players and other electronics. The repair work is combined with a narrative structure in which conversations and player choices can affect customers and lead toward different story outcomes.

The September 21 update had originally been expected earlier in the month. Mandragora said on September 10 that the team needed additional time to finish the content and would instead use tinyBuild Connect on September 14 to announce its new release timing. The developer also offered an early description of the update, confirming that Kaito and Haruhi will return after growing older and becoming an actor and engineer respectively.

Their return will form part of a new story addition involving what the developer described as a major game-development star who is visiting the city. Mandragora has also confirmed that the update includes a new character and another device to repair, tying the additional restoration work into the expanded story. The September 21 launch means players will only have to wait another week for content that had previously been planned for mid-September.

Post-launch support has already included several technical updates addressing progression and stability issues. An August patch introduced five save slots and fixes for story blockers, memory leaks, controller interactions, inventory sorting and device-specific problems. Mandragora has also said it is working on a longer-term roadmap, suggesting the first free content update will not be the end of ReStory’s post-launch additions.

The 500,000-sales milestone is notable given how quickly ReStory has reached it. From more than 300,000 copies after its first week, the game has added at least another 200,000 sales in roughly a month while maintaining very strong user reception on Steam. Its store page currently carries an Overwhelmingly Positive rating from thousands of English-language reviews, reinforcing the momentum that followed its August launch.

ReStory is currently available on PC through Steam, with Mandragora listed as developer and tinyBuild as publisher. The game remains focused on its single-player repair-shop experience, and no console versions have been announced alongside the latest update news. Its first free content update will launch on September 21, giving the rapidly growing player base a new story chapter, another character and a fresh piece of nostalgic technology to restore.
