Fortnite’s Mega Man Cup has launched with an apparent problem affecting one of its advertised rewards. Dataminer FireMonkey reports that the Mega Buster is not enabled in the tournament’s current loot pool, even though Epic’s official event page requires players to score five eliminations with the weapon to unlock the Override Buster Blast Spray. Epic Games has not yet publicly acknowledged the issue.

The contradiction is visible in Fortnite’s own tournament description. Epic explicitly tells competitors to get five eliminations with the Mega Buster to earn the spray, while the main Mega Man Cup is running as a Duos event across both Battle Royale and Zero Build. FireMonkey’s latest tournament configuration check indicates the required weapon itself is currently unavailable within those Cup matches, making the challenge impossible to complete as configured.

The issue is particularly relevant because the spray was presented as a separate participation objective rather than a leaderboard reward. Players do not need to reach one of the regional placement thresholds to obtain it; instead, the advertised requirement is specifically tied to Mega Buster eliminations. The broader Mega Man Cup reward structure and regional thresholds also include cosmetic prizes for higher-performing competitors, but the Override Buster Blast Spray is supposed to be earned through weapon use.

Epic’s official competitive page continues to display the five-elimination requirement at the time of writing. The event description says top competitors can earn Mega Man cosmetic rewards and separately instructs players to use the Mega Buster for the spray. There is no visible note on the page warning that the weapon challenge is disabled, postponed or being handled through a different method.

The tournament itself began on September 8, with regions entering their sessions at different times throughout the day. Oceania and Asia were among the earlier regions to begin their Battle Royale and Zero Build sessions, while Europe, the Middle East and North American regions follow according to Epic’s regional schedule. That staggered rollout gives Epic time to alter the tournament configuration before later sessions if the missing weapon is unintended.

The Mega Man Cup was first uncovered through game files before Epic’s competitive listings went live. Earlier datamining established the Duos format, the five-elimination Mega Buster objective and the exclusive spray, alongside broader cosmetic rewards for top players. The original Mega Man Cup leak was subsequently supported by Epic’s official competitive page when the event appeared on Fortnite’s schedule.

Additional tournament imagery later indicated that Mega Man X would be among the major competitive rewards. That development followed the wider Mega Man cosmetic set decrypting with Mega Man, X and Zero, confirming the collaboration’s three-character lineup. However, the current issue does not concern those placement-based cosmetics; it specifically affects the weapon-dependent spray challenge.

The Mega Buster itself is already part of Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 4: Override outside the tournament context. It serves as one of the season’s crossover weapons and is closely tied to the Mega Man collaboration, making its absence from a challenge explicitly built around it especially noticeable. Tournament loot pools can differ from standard Battle Royale, and individual weapons are routinely enabled or disabled separately for competitive events.

That means the problem may ultimately be a configuration oversight rather than a change to the reward itself. Epic could enable the Mega Buster for later sessions, modify the challenge requirement or distribute the spray another way if affected players were unable to earn it. None of those remedies has been announced yet, and there is currently no official statement confirming how Epic intends to handle competitors who have already played.

For now, players entering the Mega Man Cup should be aware that the official event page still advertises the Override Buster Blast Spray for five Mega Buster eliminations, while FireMonkey reports the necessary weapon is not enabled in the Cup loot pool. With regional sessions continuing through September 8 and into September 9 in some time zones, the situation could change quickly if Epic adjusts the tournament configuration.
