The Haunting is officially returning to Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 and Warzone. Activision published a new launch trailer for the Halloween-themed event on September 8, confirming a return that had first surfaced through PlayStation backend activity spotted by PlayStationSize. The official reveal supersedes the earlier database evidence and establishes that both Black Ops 7 and Warzone will take part in this year’s event.
Before the trailer went live, PlayStation backend listings had already begun pointing toward The Haunting appearing in the current Call of Duty cycle. CharlieIntel highlighted the discovery on September 8, crediting PlayStationSize for finding the relevant material. At that stage, the safest conclusion was that Activision was preparing the event, but the database information did not establish its full schedule, content lineup or rollout plans.
That uncertainty has now been reduced by Activision’s own trailer. The video is explicitly titled around The Haunting and names both Warzone and Black Ops 7, confirming that the seasonal event is not limited to one side of the Call of Duty ecosystem. The reveal also fits the timing of Black Ops 7’s final major seasonal stretch before the franchise transitions toward Modern Warfare 4 later this year.

The Haunting has become Call of Duty’s recurring Halloween event, typically combining seasonal map changes, limited-time modes, themed cosmetics and horror-focused content. Previous versions have brought darker variants of existing locations, zombie-related modes and crossover Operators tied to horror franchises. Activision has not yet published the complete 2026 event breakdown, so individual modes, maps and rewards should not be assumed from earlier years.
Black Ops 7 is currently approaching Season 6, with the existing Battle Pass schedule pointing toward a September 17 transition. That date has been widely treated as the expected start of the next season, although Activision had not formally detailed the full Season 6 roadmap when the backend discovery first appeared. The Haunting reveal strongly indicates that Halloween content will form a major part of that upcoming seasonal update.
The timing also makes sense given the wider Call of Duty calendar. Modern Warfare 4 is scheduled to launch in October, leaving Black Ops 7 with a relatively short final seasonal window compared with some earlier entries. Bringing The Haunting forward into September allows Activision to run its Halloween programming before attention shifts toward the next premium release.
Warzone will receive the event alongside Black Ops 7, continuing Activision’s usual approach of spreading major seasonal themes across multiplayer and the free-to-play battle royale. Warzone’s Haunting events have historically been among the more substantial versions of the annual celebration, often using nighttime environments and limited-time modes to change how familiar maps play. Whether those specific features return in 2026 has not yet been fully detailed.
The original PlayStation backend discovery is still notable because it provided one of the first concrete signals that The Haunting was moving toward release. Backend findings can often expose upcoming content before public marketing begins, but they do not guarantee timing or final implementation. In this case, Activision’s trailer arrived shortly afterward and confirmed the core claim.
More information is expected as Activision outlines Black Ops 7 Season 6 and the associated Warzone update. The company has not yet published a complete list of Haunting modes, rewards, map changes or event dates in the material currently available. For now, the important change is that The Haunting has moved from an unannounced backend discovery to an officially confirmed event for both Black Ops 7 and Warzone.
