KADATH has announced Under Mythos, a new dark fantasy JRPG coming to Nintendo Switch and PC. The game combines peaceful hot spring inn management with dungeon exploration and action-based combat, using a deliberately contrasting structure in which a comforting everyday routine gradually gives way to something far more unsettling. A specific release date has not yet been announced.
Under Mythos follows a lone cat that enters another world while searching for its mother. There, the protagonist discovers a mysterious hot spring inn where unusual inhabitants come to rest and recover, eventually taking on work at the inn while continuing the search. The setup begins quietly, but KADATH says an unpredictable disturbance slowly begins to affect the world and the characters living within it.
That tonal shift is one of the project’s central ideas. The developer describes the game as moving from peaceful daily life into increasingly strange and disturbing circumstances, with the familiar world itself gradually becoming consumed by madness. Its visual presentation leans into that contrast, pairing cute and stylized character designs with darker environments and grotesque enemy forms.

Outside the inn, players will venture into dungeons scattered throughout the otherworld to gather food, materials and other resources. These expeditions use action-based combat, with players fighting creatures that have undergone disturbing transformations while trying to bring useful supplies safely back home. The dungeon structure appears to serve as the more dangerous half of the game’s broader progression loop.
Resources recovered during expeditions can then be used to develop the hot spring inn. Expanding the facility brings new guests and encounters, which in turn opens additional opportunities for exploration. That creates a repeating cycle between management and combat rather than treating the inn as a purely decorative hub between dungeon runs.
KADATH is also drawing on extraction-style ideas for the dungeon portions of the game. Players are encouraged to decide how far to push an expedition before returning with what they have collected, giving each trip a risk-versus-reward element. The developer has not yet explained the exact penalties for failure or how much progress is retained after an unsuccessful run, so some of the system’s finer details remain unclear.
The Steam listing categorizes Under Mythos across RPG, action and simulation elements, which reflects the project’s unusual combination of systems. It also lists single-player play and partial controller support, while English, Japanese, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese and Korean interface support are currently planned. The PC version is already publicly listed on Steam ahead of release.
Under Mythos joins a growing group of darker RPGs headed to Nintendo platforms, though its structure separates it from more conventional fantasy adventures. Games such as Onyx : The Dark Grip lean much more heavily into supernatural horror, while Under Mythos uses its initially cozy inn-management premise as part of the contrast. The result is a game that appears designed to make its more disturbing moments stand out against a deliberately gentle starting point.
KADATH is both developing and publishing the project. The studio has not yet provided pricing, a narrower launch window or detailed information about the scope of the Nintendo Switch version compared with PC. More gameplay footage will also be needed to clarify how the inn-management, extraction and combat systems interact over a full playthrough.
For now, Under Mythos stands out because of how directly it combines two very different styles of play. Players will spend part of their time caring for guests and improving a hot spring inn, then leave that relative safety to search dangerous dungeons for the resources needed to keep progressing. Under Mythos is in development for Nintendo Switch and PC, with further release details still to come.
