A Steam achievement set for Professor Layton and the New World of Steam has surfaced online ahead of the game’s planned late 2026 release. The entries appeared through achievement-tracking site Exophase under the game’s Steam listing, with their text currently presented in Japanese. LEVEL-5 has not publicly announced the achievement set, so the material should be treated as pre-release backend data rather than a finalized list.
The surfaced entries appear consistent with Professor Layton and the New World of Steam, referencing characters associated with the upcoming adventure in Steam Bison. However, translating achievement text before release carries an obvious spoiler risk, particularly for a series built around mysteries and story progression. The listing may also change before launch, so achievement names, descriptions and requirements visible at this stage should not necessarily be considered final.
Its appearance is nevertheless notable because LEVEL-5 only confirmed the PC version earlier this year. During LEVEL5 VISION 2026 in April, the company announced that Professor Layton and the New World of Steam would launch on Steam and PlayStation 5 alongside Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2. LEVEL-5 said at the time that core gameplay was nearly complete and development had shifted toward visual polish, presentation and localization ahead of a worldwide release toward the end of 2026.
This is also not the first unreleased game to expose information through Steam’s achievement infrastructure. Similar pre-release listings have recently appeared for titles including Kena : Scars of Kosmora and CONTROL Resonant, with backend achievement data becoming publicly visible before the associated games reached players. Such listings can provide an early indication that platform integration is progressing, but they do not establish that a release is imminent.
Professor Layton and the New World of Steam takes place one year after Professor Layton and the Unwound Future. Luke Triton is now living in America and has built a reputation in Steam Bison as “Detective Luke,” while Professor Hershel Layton travels to the rapidly developing city after a mysterious incident brings the pair together again. Steam technology has transformed the town beyond even London’s level of development, providing the setting for the pair’s latest investigation.
LEVEL-5 has already revealed a sizeable supporting cast for the new adventure. Characters include inventor Eggmuffin Sonder, wealthy Steam Bison figure Bolt Allinston, his twin daughters Elinora and Elida, Sheriff Bobsley, the treasure-gathering eagle Falcon and fortune teller Mystella. Because several of these characters are now part of official promotional material, their appearance in backend text would not necessarily constitute a new character reveal by itself.
The game will retain the series’ puzzle-adventure structure, with puzzles being created by Japanese quiz and entertainment group QuizKnock. Previous public demonstrations have shown players exploring Steam Bison, speaking with residents, searching for Hint Coins and solving the series’ familiar logic puzzles. LEVEL-5 says the new installment will contain more puzzles than previous entries, while the Nintendo Switch 2 edition will also support Joy-Con 2 mouse-style controls.
New World of Steam was originally targeted for 2025 before LEVEL-5 delayed it to 2026 in September last year. The publisher later expanded the platform lineup to include PS5 and Steam, making this the first main Professor Layton adventure scheduled for both PlayStation and PC. An exact release date has still not been announced.
For now, the achievement listing is best viewed as another sign of work underway on the Steam release rather than confirmation of a launch date. The Japanese entries appear to belong to Professor Layton and the New World of Steam and reference its upcoming cast, but LEVEL-5 has not formally published the achievements. Players hoping to avoid story or puzzle spoilers may want to steer clear of the full backend list until the game launches later in 2026.
