Ubisoft Games Face Significant Crashes on Windows 11

Several Ubisoft games, including popular titles like Assassin’s Creed Origins, Valhalla, and Star Wars Outlaws, are experiencing major issues on Windows 11, particularly after users update to version 24H2.

These issues include crashes and black screens during gameplay, forcing players to close the games using Task Manager. Both Microsoft and Ubisoft are aware of the situation and are actively working on solutions.

This announcement followed the recent release of Star Wars Outlaws version 1.4.0, a significant update across all platforms. The update introduced several enhancements, such as improvements to the stealth system.

Players now have the option to adapt their tactics or engage in combat during stealth missions rather than failing immediately. Other updates included allowing the protagonist, Kay, to wield a two-handed weapon more often and introducing exploitable weak points on enemies for dynamic combat.

Despite these improvements, players have reported technical issues on Windows 11, particularly for those running version 24H2. According to Microsoft, crashes occur in five Ubisoft titles, with symptoms like black screens forcing players to close the games via Task Manager. The affected games are:

    • Assassin’s Creed Origins
    • Assassin’s Creed Odyssey
    • Assassin’s Creed Valhalla
    • Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora
    • Star Wars Outlaws

Ubisoft has implemented temporary fixes for Star Wars Outlaws to prevent game crashes, though some performance problems persist.

Meanwhile, Microsoft has imposed a “compatibility hold” on systems with these games installed to block them from upgrading to version 24H2. They have also advised users not to manually update their PCs using the Windows 11 Installation Assistant or Media Creation tools until the issues are fully resolved.

Although the adoption of Windows 11 continues to grow steadily, the operating system has faced ongoing criticism for its history of launch updates that frequently disrupt gaming performance, causing frustration among players.

As of now, it remains uncertain how quickly Ubisoft and Microsoft will collaborate to resolve these issues for gamers running the latest version 24H2, leaving many users awaiting further updates or permanent fixes.
