New gameplay from Haven Studios’ FairGames has surfaced as another round of playtesting gets underway for Sony’s long-running multiplayer project. Insider Gaming published the footage on September 10 and reported that the latest tests are being conducted through Player.gg under the codename Project Espresso. The playtest listing itself describes the unnamed project as a third-person PvPvE competitive action game centered on infiltrating secured locations, stealing valuable cargo and escaping before rival teams.
That description closely matches the concept Sony originally revealed for FairGames in 2023. Haven Studios introduced the title as a competitive heist game for PS5 and PC in which crews target wealthy locations, steal valuables and contend with other players inside an emergent multiplayer sandbox. Sony and Haven have not publicly confirmed that Project Espresso is FairGames, so the connection currently rests on Insider Gaming’s reporting and similarities between the test and previously disclosed versions of the game.
The latest footage is notable because official information about FairGames has remained scarce since its announcement. Sony’s original reveal provided a cinematic trailer rather than an extended look at actual gameplay, while much of what has emerged since then has come through reports about internal testing. Insider Gaming has repeatedly reported on development changes at Haven, including earlier pre-alpha builds and attempts by the studio to refine the game’s core multiplayer loop.
In April, the outlet reported that one version of FairGames included a mode called Cargo Heist built around three stages: breaking into a secured area, obtaining cargo and then extracting it. Teams could reportedly earn cash, improve their capabilities during a match and either secure the objective themselves or attempt to intercept another crew. The newly advertised Project Espresso test follows essentially the same broad structure, with competing teams entering high-security locations and fighting over valuable cargo before attempting to escape.
The project has also reportedly undergone substantial changes during development. Insider Gaming previously said playtest feedback had been poor, with some testers criticizing movement, classes, AI and the overall state of the experience. By April 2026, the outlet reported that Haven was still working to “find the fun” in the pre-alpha build, while the game had moved closer to an extraction-style structure than the more general competitive-heist concept initially presented by Sony.
FairGames has experienced significant leadership changes during that period as well. Haven Studios founder Jade Raymond left the PlayStation-owned developer in May 2025, while game director Daniel Drapeau departed later that year. Sony has continued development despite those departures and the wider reassessment of its live-service strategy following several cancellations and the shutdown of Concord.
There has also been speculation that the FairGames name itself may not survive to release. Sony filed trademarks in 2026 connected to the name Break In, prompting reports that it could represent a new identity for Haven’s project. The Project Espresso playtest does not publicly name FairGames or Break In, however, and neither Sony nor Haven has formally announced a rebranding.
What the latest test does show is that the project remains active and is still being placed in front of players. Player.gg’s listing says Project Espresso is playable on PC and PS5 and describes it as a competitive third-person PvPvE game from a AAA developer, giving participants another opportunity to test the heist-and-extraction structure associated with FairGames. Insider Gaming’s newly published gameplay therefore offers one of the clearest recent indications of what Haven’s multiplayer project currently looks like after years of development changes.
Sony has still not announced a release date for FairGames or provided a substantial official gameplay presentation since the game’s 2023 unveiling. Until the company publicly identifies Project Espresso or gives FairGames another formal reveal, details from these playtests remain unofficial. Even so, the appearance of fresh gameplay and another active testing round suggests Haven Studios is continuing to iterate on the project rather than moving away from it.
