Activision and Infinity Ward have released a new Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 campaign trailer, offering a much deeper look at Captain Price’s outlaw storyline and the war unfolding on the Korean Peninsula. The trailer debuted during Xbox’s Tokyo Game Show broadcast on September 17 and expands on several major plot threads ahead of the game’s October 23 launch. Campaign Early Access begins October 16 for players who digitally pre-order the Standard or Vault Edition.

The new footage picks up after the events of Modern Warfare III, with John Price now on the run following his assassination of General Shepherd. Task Force 141 has been disbanded, and Price’s former allies are no longer united behind him. Ghost openly questions Price’s methods, while Ghost and Gaz have been ordered to capture or kill their former captain.

Kate Laswell remains in contact with Price, although Activision suggests even she is becoming increasingly concerned about how far he is willing to go. That leaves Price operating largely outside the system he once served, forcing him to rely on people he would previously have considered enemies. The trailer builds much of its tension around that shift, presenting Price as both hunter and hunted.

One of those uneasy alliances brings Valeria Garza back into the story. The Las Almas Cartel leader, also known as El Sin Nombre, is shown working with Price despite their history as adversaries. Activision describes the partnership as a consequence of the larger threat facing them, with Price forced to abandon old rivalries in order to pursue an enemy whose plans could have global consequences.

The other major half of Modern Warfare 4’s campaign takes place in South Korea. North Korea launches a full-scale invasion, placing Private Park Hyun Jun and his squad on the front line as the country attempts to repel the attack. Joint US and Republic of Korea forces are shown participating in ground fighting and amphibious operations while cities and defensive positions collapse around them.

That Korean storyline forms part of a much broader globe-spanning campaign. Activision says Modern Warfare 4 will move from trench warfare in Korea to close-quarters combat in New York, high-speed chases through Paris, SAS night operations in Mumbai and large-scale battles to reclaim occupied territory. Players will alternate between the wider military conflict and Price’s more clandestine operations.

At the center of both storylines is an unidentified weapon being moved toward a figure known only as the Archer. Laswell warns that the device is significant enough to alter the global balance of power, but Activision has deliberately withheld details about what the weapon actually is. The trailer presents the Archer as one of the campaign’s central threats without fully revealing the character’s identity or objectives.

The release follows Activision’s confirmation that a new campaign trailer would debut during Xbox’s Tokyo Game Show showcase, but the final presentation includes considerably more story detail than had previously been disclosed. In addition to Price’s conflict with his former team, the footage establishes Valeria’s role, introduces the Korean invasion more clearly and links both conflicts to the mysterious Archer.

Modern Warfare 4 launches October 23 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2 and PC through Steam, Battle.net and the Xbox PC app. Players who digitally pre-order either edition can begin the campaign one week earlier on October 16. The campaign joins multiplayer and DMZ as the game’s three main modes.

The latest trailer leaves several major questions deliberately unanswered, particularly around the Archer and the weapon being transported. What is clear is that Infinity Ward is framing Modern Warfare 4 around two parallel crises: Price’s personal war after abandoning the rules that once defined Task Force 141, and a conventional military conflict capable of destabilizing the Korean Peninsula. Both storylines are set to converge when the campaign arrives next month.
