A developer has recently suggested that the Nintendo Switch 2 could exceed expectations in terms of performance, describing its hardware as “very capable” and suggesting that many players will be “pleasantly surprised.” This update has offered a sense of optimism to fans, who have been somewhat skeptical about the console’s hardware capabilities.

The Nintendo Switch 2 has been a topic of speculation for quite some time, and Nintendo previously confirmed its development. The company has indicated that the console is expected to be announced by March 2025. As fans eagerly await more details, new insights have surfaced regarding what the Switch 2 might offer.

On the InstallBase forums, a user named Matt—regarded by many in the community as a credible developer—shared some intriguing claims about the upcoming console.

Responding to speculation that the Switch 2 might not be significantly more powerful than the PlayStation 4, Matt assured that the “hardware is very capable” and hinted that it might exceed fan expectations in terms of performance.

Matt also emphasized that both Nintendo and third-party developers view the Switch 2 as a major growth opportunity. This suggests that the console could attract a wider array of AAA titles compared to its predecessor.

However, he clarified that not every AAA game will be available on the platform, citing factors beyond hardware limitations. Matt pointed out that the potentially large user base of the Switch 2 could encourage third-party developers to create games for the system, as it represents a profitable market for smaller development teams.

Earlier leaks about the Switch 2 hinted at 12GB of RAM, prompting comparisons to the Xbox Series S. However, Matt dismissed these comparisons as “incredibly misplaced,” likely due to the significant differences in form factor between the two devices. While these claims are exciting, only time will tell if they prove accurate.
