TAITO has announced Lufia I & II: The Sinistrals Saga, a new collection bringing two of the series’ classic JRPGs to modern platforms in 2027. The package includes Lufia & the Fortress of Doom and Lufia II: Rise of the Sinistrals, with releases planned for PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch and PC via Steam. Clear River Games will publish the collection in Western markets.
The announcement was made during PC Gaming Show Tokyo Direct 2026, where TAITO debuted the project with a world-premiere trailer. According to the publisher, both games are being ported and enhanced for modern play rather than simply redistributed in their original form. TAITO has not yet detailed the full list of quality-of-life additions or technical improvements, so more information about the collection’s enhancements is expected closer to launch.
Lufia & the Fortress of Doom originally released in Japan in 1993 for the Super Famicom before arriving in North America later that year on SNES. Its story follows a young hero descended from a legendary warrior alongside Lufia, Aguro and Jerin as they confront the return of the Sinistrals. The game uses traditional turn-based combat, town and dungeon exploration and a story focused on the consequences of an earlier battle against the four powerful beings.

Lufia II: Rise of the Sinistrals followed in Japan in 1995 and acts as a prequel despite being the second game in the series. It centers on Maxim and his companions, chronicling the conflict that ultimately sets up the events referenced at the beginning of the first Lufia. The sequel became particularly known for combining turn-based combat with more elaborate dungeon puzzles and remains one of the most recognizable entries in the franchise.
Bringing both games together also gives players the two core stories in an order that highlights how closely connected they are. While Lufia & the Fortress of Doom was released first, Rise of the Sinistrals explores events that occur earlier in the series timeline and provides the backstory behind several characters and conflicts referenced in the original. TAITO describes the collection as a return of two JRPGs remembered for their dramatic stories and soundtracks.
The announcement arrives amid a broader wave of classic Japanese games being revived for current hardware. Recent examples include Toshinden Collection for PS5, Switch 2 and PC and Psychic Force 2012 returning on modern platforms, both of which are also planned for 2027. Lufia I & II differs by focusing on traditional 1990s JRPGs rather than fighting games, but it follows the same trend of bringing older Japanese catalog titles to contemporary systems.
The Steam listing confirms that the PC version will support achievements, cloud saves and family sharing. It also lists support for English, French, German, Spanish, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, Japanese and Korean interfaces and subtitles. On PC, TAITO lists relatively modest hardware requirements, reflecting the collection’s roots as a pair of 2D games originally designed for 16-bit hardware.
No exact release date or pricing has been announced beyond the 2027 window. TAITO has also not yet confirmed whether the collection will include extras such as galleries, music players, rewind functionality or additional display options. For now, Lufia I & II: The Sinistrals Saga represents the first major modern re-release of the franchise’s two foundational games together on PS5, Switch 2, Switch and PC.
