Fading Echo has launched on PlayStation 5 today, September 22, bringing Emeteria and New Tales’ elemental action-adventure RPG to Sony’s console after its PC debut earlier this year. Game co-director and Emeteria studio head Sylvain Sechi confirmed the release through PlayStation Blog, where the developer also detailed the game’s water-based movement, reactive combat and reality-shifting systems. A free PS5 demo is available alongside the full release.
Players control One, a young Legend attempting to save the fractured world of Corel from a mysterious force known as the Paradox. Her defining ability is control over Æther, the game’s form of water, which can be used both as a weapon and as a means of traversal. One can transform into a liquid blob to move through narrow openings, travel through pipes, build momentum across the environment and launch herself into enemies as a water bomb.
The combat system is built around combining Æther with other substances rather than relying on a fixed sequence of attacks. Players can drench enemies before interacting with lava, toxic waste, energy and Paradox corruption to produce different reactions, while charged blasts and waves provide more direct offensive options. Emeteria says encounters are designed to encourage experimentation with the environment, allowing different combinations of elements to alter how a fight unfolds.

Reality shifting adds another layer to both combat and exploration. The Paradox has fractured Corel into alternate versions of the same locations, and One can move between these realities to find different paths, resources and environmental conditions. An inaccessible route in one version of an area might become available in another, while an element needed for a puzzle or combat strategy may only exist on the other side of a shift.
Emeteria has designed those systems to overlap rather than function as isolated mechanics. Æther movement can be used for traversal and attacks, elemental reactions can solve combat problems or manipulate the environment, and shifting realities can change the hazards and resources available during an encounter. The goal is to give players multiple possible approaches instead of prescribing a single solution to each situation.
Corel itself is being consumed by Paradox Corruption, with the conflict centered on Maddock, the local leader of the Paradox and a major obstacle in One’s attempt to stop the collapse. The journey takes players through floating islands and distorted realities while also exploring One’s own history. Although Fading Echo is a single-player game, One encounters a small group of allies with their own motivations and relationships to both the world and its protagonist.
Fading Echo originally launched for PC through Steam and the Epic Games Store on July 21. At that point, New Tales and Emeteria said PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S versions would follow later in 2026. The PS5 release now fulfills the first part of that console rollout, while the Xbox Series version remains scheduled for later this year.
The game is the first project from Emeteria, a studio within publisher New Tales, and runs on Unreal Engine 5. Its presentation combines a stylized comic-inspired aesthetic with surreal environments that change as players move between realities. The studio has emphasized systemic interactions as a core part of the experience, using the same underlying mechanics across traversal, puzzles and combat rather than separating those activities into distinct systems.
PlayStation players who are unsure about the full game can also try the newly released demo before purchasing. The trial provides an opportunity to experiment with One’s movement and elemental abilities while getting an initial look at Corel and its reality-shifting structure.
Fading Echo is available now on PlayStation 5 and PC. The Xbox Series X|S version is still planned for release later in 2026, although New Tales has not announced a specific launch date for Microsoft’s consoles.
