Kojima Productions has released the first teaser trailer for Death Stranding Isolations, its upcoming animated series set in the universe of Hideo Kojima’s Death Stranding games. The studio also revealed an expanded story synopsis and additional production credits on October 30, 2026, confirming that the hand-drawn animated series remains scheduled to premiere on Disney+ in 2027.
The new footage and details were presented during Kojima Productions’ 10th anniversary celebration, Beyond the Strand: The Odyssey of Creation and Endeavor, held at Azabudai Hills Gallery in Tokyo. Although the series was previously announced, the latest presentation offers its first substantial animated preview and a clearer understanding of its narrative direction.
Death Stranding Isolations will feature an original story separate from the events directly depicted in the video games. Rather than adapting Sam Porter Bridges’ journey, the series explores other individuals living in the same post-apocalyptic world and the consequences of humanity’s attempts to reconnect.

The story takes place in North America immediately after Sam reconnects the continent through the Chiral Network. While the network begins restoring connections between isolated communities, those renewed relationships also create unforeseen consequences.
At the center of the narrative is a young girl whose mother was lost during the catastrophic explosions associated with the Death Stranding. Forced into isolation by the disaster, she gradually becomes accustomed to living alone and rejects opportunities to reconnect with others.
However, unexpected encounters eventually draw her into an unfamiliar world, challenging the isolation she has chosen.
The expanded synopsis also introduces several other characters whose experiences contrast with Sam’s mission. These include an elderly man attempting to connect people through unconventional means, a female soldier trapped in an ongoing cycle of conflict and destruction, and a young boy struggling with anger over the circumstances of his life.
Their individual stories will explore different responses to the fractured world, expanding the franchise’s established themes of isolation, human connection and survival.
Kojima Productions confirmed that the series will use traditional hand-drawn 2D animation, with Japanese animation studio E&H production handling the visuals. The studio’s previous work includes Ninja Kamui and Bullet/Bullet.
Takayuki Sano is directing the project, while Hideo Kojima serves as executive producer. Character designer Ilya Kuvshinov, previously associated with Ghost in the Shell: SAC_2045, is also involved in the production.
The October 30 announcement additionally confirmed that Japanese author Tow Ubukata is responsible for series composition and screenplay. Ubukata is known for his work across novels, games and animation, including Mardock Scramble.
Sano also commented on the responsibility of adapting Kojima’s fictional universe, explaining that he approached the production with a strong commitment to preserving the emotional and thematic qualities associated with the creator’s work.
Death Stranding Isolations was originally announced in November 2025 during a Disney+ presentation in Hong Kong, alongside initial concept artwork and confirmation of its streaming destination.
The series is distinct from Death Stranding: Mosquito, a separate animated film project directed by Hiroshi Miyamoto and written by Aaron Guzikowski. Both productions expand the franchise beyond its original video game format, but feature different creative teams and stories.
For players familiar with the original Death Stranding, Isolations provides an opportunity to explore what happened elsewhere in North America following the restoration of the Chiral Network, rather than returning directly to Sam’s journey.
Kojima Productions has not announced an exact premiere date, episode count or voice cast for Death Stranding Isolations. The series is currently scheduled to stream exclusively on Disney+ or other Disney services in 2027.
