Sword of the Sea is reportedly coming to Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch 2 on October 29, 2026. The new release information, shared by Gematsu on October 28, points to an imminent expansion for Giant Squid’s atmospheric adventure game, which originally launched on PlayStation 5 and PC on August 19, 2025.
The announcement follows the recent appearance of Sword of the Sea on the Xbox Store, which identified Xbox Series X|S as supported platforms but did not publicly display a release date. Microsoft’s store catalog subsequently indicated an October 29 launch, while the latest report also identifies Nintendo Switch 2 as an additional platform.
The Xbox Store listing names Giant Squid as the developer and Fictions as the publisher. It also identifies support for 4K Ultra HD, frame rates of 60 fps or higher, Xbox achievements and cloud saves. These are storefront capability labels rather than confirmation of specific graphics modes or performance targets for each console.

Sword of the Sea places players in the role of the Wraith, a resurrected figure exploring a desolate landscape in search of a lost ocean. Its central movement mechanic revolves around the Hoversword, which combines elements of surfing, skateboarding and snowboarding to let players glide across sand dunes, water and ancient ruins.
As players explore the world, they restore water and marine life to previously barren environments, opening new routes and revealing hidden areas. The adventure also features encounters with enormous creatures known as leviathans.
The game was developed by Giant Squid, the studio behind ABZÛ and The Pathless, with creative direction from Matt Nava and music composed by Austin Wintory.
The reported October 29 launch would bring Sword of the Sea to two additional console platforms more than a year after its original release. While the earlier Xbox Store listing supports the Xbox version and its expected release date, a directly accessible first-party announcement confirming the Nintendo Switch 2 version and its launch details was not independently located.
Pricing, Nintendo Switch 2 performance specifications and Xbox Game Pass availability have not been established in the verified information.
