Mojang has confirmed that The Sift, a brand-new dimension first introduced through Minecraft Dungeons II, is coming to Minecraft Java and Bedrock Edition in 2027. The announcement was made during Minecraft LIVE on September 26, making The Sift the fourth dimension in the main game alongside the Overworld, the Nether and the End. Mojang describes it as the first new dimension added to Minecraft in more than 14 years. Minecraft.net +1

The Sift will first be playable in Minecraft Dungeons II, which launches on September 29. Mojang previously showed the dimension through Dungeons II gameplay, but the Minecraft LIVE presentation confirmed that its setting and concepts will also make the jump into the main Minecraft experience. The studio has not yet announced an exact release date in 2027 or explained precisely how players will access The Sift in Java and Bedrock. Minecraft.net +1

In Dungeons II, The Sift is reached through mysterious rifts that appear throughout the game’s interconnected world. Mojang says the dimension has its own environments, mobs and gameplay rules, with areas including the Meadow and Carapace. Shifting conditions within The Sift can affect characters and their surroundings, while hazardous blocks introduce additional challenges during exploration. Minecraft.net +1

The addition represents a significant expansion of Minecraft’s core world structure. The End, which became part of the main game around Minecraft’s 2011 1.0 release, has remained the game’s most recent major dimension for more than a decade. The Sift will therefore introduce a new destination for exploration and building while potentially giving Mojang another foundation for new blocks, creatures and mechanics. Neowin +1

For now, Mojang is keeping much of The Sift’s implementation in the main game under wraps. The studio showed an in-development glimpse during Minecraft LIVE, including one of the dimension’s inhabitants, but said more information will come through future Minecraft LIVE events. Xbox Wire also notes that the version appearing in Minecraft may differ in some respects from its implementation in Dungeons II. XBOX Wire +1

Players will get their first opportunity to experience The Sift when Minecraft Dungeons II launches on September 29 across Xbox Series X|S, PC, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2, with the game also included in Game Pass. The main Minecraft version will follow in 2027 on Java and Bedrock, although Mojang has not yet provided a narrower launch window. XBOX Wire
