Infinity Ward studio head Mark Grigsby has confirmed that next week will be focused on DMZ, the extraction mode coming to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4. Responding to a fan on social media, Grigsby said, “Next week is all about DMZ. Big Week. Big Spill,” signaling that the studio plans to share a substantial amount of new information about the mode.
The statement comes as Activision and Infinity Ward approach Modern Warfare 4’s October 23 launch. DMZ has already received an extensive first look, with official materials describing it as a large-scale extraction experience in which players enter a contested combat zone, complete objectives, collect equipment and decide when to extract. The mode is positioned as a major component of the new Call of Duty rather than a small multiplayer side feature.
Official information so far describes DMZ as a living combat sandbox where players can loot, fight, negotiate and extract with whatever they manage to carry out. Players can deploy alone or with a squad while operating as an off-the-books asset tasked with recovering advanced military technology left behind by the wider conflict. Infinity Ward has also described deployments as situations where players must weigh objectives, resources and the risk of staying in the combat zone for longer.

The upcoming information push is therefore likely to address some of the areas that remain unclear about how DMZ will work at launch. Activision and Infinity Ward have shown gameplay and outlined the basic extraction structure, but many details about progression, missions, rewards and the broader long-term experience have yet to receive the same level of explanation. Grigsby’s reference to a “Big Spill” suggests the studio intends to fill in more of those gaps rather than provide only a minor update.
DMZ is arriving alongside the rest of Modern Warfare 4 on October 23, with the game scheduled for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC and Nintendo Switch 2. The official game materials identify Infinity Ward as the studio leading development, while other Activision studios are contributing to the project. The title will also connect with the wider Call of Duty ecosystem through its post-launch content and seasonal plans.
The timing of the announcement gives Infinity Ward relatively little room for another major DMZ information cycle before launch. Modern Warfare 4 is now less than a month from release, making next week’s promised information drop one of the final opportunities for the studio to explain the mode in detail before players can experience it themselves.
Grigsby has not specified exactly when the DMZ information will arrive, nor has Infinity Ward disclosed the subjects that will be covered in the “Big Spill.” For now, the studio has only confirmed that DMZ will be the focus of next week’s communications. More concrete details should follow when the promised information begins rolling out.
