Freebird Games and Serenity Forge have announced Conversations with My Imaginary Friends, a free narrative collection from To the Moon creator Kan Gao scheduled to launch on PC through Steam in 2027. The project features explorable scenes built around conversations between Gao and fictional characters he has created over the past two decades, combining personal reflections with behind-the-scenes stories about game development.
The announcement coincides with the 15th anniversary of To the Moon, the 2011 narrative adventure that established Gao’s best-known series. Unlike a conventional story-driven game, Conversations with My Imaginary Friends is presented as a collection of interactive scenes exploring the relationship between a creator and the characters developed throughout his career.
According to the official description published by Serenity Forge and Freebird Games, the collection will explore subjects ranging from everyday life to the creative process behind making games. Hand-crafted illustrations and pixel art accompany the conversations, allowing players to experience personal stories and reflections through an interactive format.

Gao explained that the project’s origins stretch back to his childhood, when he frequently imagined conversations with fictional characters from stories he had written. Those imaginary interactions eventually contributed to his interest in game development and music composition, which offered ways to bring his characters and fictional worlds to life.
The collection also arrives at a significant moment for the To the Moon series. In a personal message accompanying the announcement, Gao confirmed that he is completing the final game in the series. He described Conversations with My Imaginary Friends as a way to preserve the characters and memories associated with his work while creating a space to share development stories that he has not previously discussed publicly.
The project is therefore intended to serve both as a personal archive and an interactive experience for players interested in the creative history behind Freebird Games. Its focus on conversations and explorable scenes distinguishes it from the studio’s more traditional narrative adventures, although the announcement has not detailed how players will navigate the collection or whether it will feature conventional gameplay objectives.
The Steam listing confirms that Conversations with My Imaginary Friends will be available for free as a single-player experience. It lists English, Simplified Chinese and Korean interface and subtitle support. The minimum PC requirements include Windows 10 or 11, an Intel Core i3-6100 or equivalent processor, 4GB of RAM, Intel HD Graphics 530 or equivalent graphics, and 1GB of available storage.
Freebird Games is listed as the developer, with Freebird Games and Serenity Forge handling publishing. The collection is currently scheduled for release sometime in 2027, with no specific launch date announced. Players can already add it to their Steam wishlists.
