Super Mario Odyssey now has an unofficial native PC port capable of running the Nintendo Switch game at 4K resolution and up to 60 frames per second on suitable hardware. The project, called Power Moon Recomp, uses static recompilation rather than conventional console emulation, allowing the game to run on Windows and Linux PCs. An experimental macOS version is also available.

The fan-developed project is hosted on GitLab under the name Zarathustra Dev, with its repository created on November 1, 2026. Its release makes Nintendo’s 2017 platformer playable on PC without running a Switch emulator, although players must provide their own game files.

According to the developer’s reported compatibility information, the port supports the complete Super Mario Odyssey campaign, including every kingdom, boss encounter, two-dimensional platforming section, ending and post-game content. The developer also reports that the game can maintain 60 FPS on a sufficiently powerful desktop PC, although comprehensive independent benchmarks across different hardware configurations are not yet available.

Unlike traditional emulation, which recreates the behavior of console hardware and software while running a game, Power Moon Recomp uses static recompilation to convert the Nintendo Switch game’s ARM64 instructions into code suitable for PC execution.

The process involves translating the original game’s code into C and generating an executable for a different hardware architecture. This removes the need for conventional Switch emulation during gameplay, although the resulting program still requires additional compatibility components to handle the game’s graphics and other platform-specific functions.

That approach differs from projects such as the Eglantine Switch 2 emulator running Mario Kart World, which attempts to execute Nintendo Switch 2 software through emulation rather than producing a separately recompiled version of an individual game.

Power Moon Recomp includes several graphics settings unavailable in the original Nintendo Switch release. Players can select their display’s native resolution, adjust internal rendering resolution and increase the render scale to produce sharper images. The reported 4K output is a significant improvement over the original game’s maximum 1080p television-mode resolution.

The frame rate remains capped at 60 FPS because Super Mario Odyssey’s gameplay timing is tied to its frame rate. Raising that limit without additional changes could interfere with the game’s internal logic and animation timing.

The port also includes options for reducing rendering resolution on less powerful systems. Reported features include AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution 1 support, allowing lower-resolution rendering to be upscaled to the selected output resolution.

Performance may vary between systems. The developer reports that shaders must compile when a new area is loaded for the first time, potentially introducing a delay of several seconds. Subsequent loading and gameplay are expected to be smoother once the necessary shaders have been compiled.

Beyond graphical improvements, Power Moon Recomp provides dedicated settings for video, audio and controls. Players can use a keyboard and mouse or compatible game controllers, with customizable input bindings and controller-based camera movement.

Mod support is another feature of the unofficial port. The project reportedly supports compatible RomFS modifications originally created for Switch emulators, including replacements for character models, costumes, textures, audio and levels. However, modifications that alter executable game code are not necessarily compatible with the recompiled version.

Windows and Linux are the primary supported desktop platforms, while the macOS implementation remains experimental and may encounter additional compatibility issues.

The project also differs from nxnative's approach to running Nintendo Switch games on Apple devices, another effort exploring ways to execute Switch software outside Nintendo’s original hardware.

Power Moon Recomp does not distribute Nintendo’s copyrighted game assets. Users must supply compatible game data from their own copy of Super Mario Odyssey, with the necessary files prepared according to the project’s instructions. Owning the game does not automatically make every method of extracting or using its files lawful, as copyright and console-protection rules vary by jurisdiction.

Nintendo has not announced or endorsed an official PC version of Super Mario Odyssey. Power Moon Recomp remains an independent, unofficial project, and its long-term availability is not guaranteed.

For PC players, the release demonstrates how static recompilation can bring an individual Nintendo Switch game to desktop hardware with higher rendering resolutions, customizable controls and mod support. The reported full-game compatibility and 4K 60 FPS performance are encouraging, but remain developer-reported capabilities rather than independently established results across a broad range of PCs.
