Yesterday, we explored the latest leaks surrounding the highly anticipated Nintendo Switch 2’s launch date and game plan strategy. With an official unveiling starting on April 2, 2025, excitement around Nintendo’s next generation console is at an all-time high.

However, despite the growing buzz, Nintendo Direct planned for today makes it clear that the original Switch isn’t done just yet. Today, Nintendo is shifting its spotlight back to its current console with a newly announced Nintendo Direct, reaffirming its dedication to support the platform and its extensive fan base.

A post shared by Nintendo of America on Wednesday confirmed today’s Nintendo’s Direct presentation, scheduled for March 27 at 7 PM PT, 10 AM ET, and 2 PM GMT. The Direct will run for approximately 30 minutes and will focus exclusively on upcoming games for the original Switch, with no announcements on Nintendo Switch 2.

Importance: This presentation could mark one of the final major showcases by the company for the original Switch, highlighting key releases to sustain the platform before the expected transition to new hardware in the coming months. It also provides developers with crucial visibility and helps Nintendo maintain its market position amid industry shifts.

Today’s Nintendo Direct Covers New Game Updates

Since there aren’t many major first-party games on the Switch’s calendar, the event could provide updates on anticipated titles like Metroid Prime 4: Beyond and Pokémon Legends: Z-A. Additionally, the possibility of more remasters remains open.

However, Nintendo has confirmed backwards compatibility for the Switch 2, so any new game to be released on original hardware will still be relevant for the next-gen console. This means that even if a game is released on the current Switch, it will still be playable on Switch 2, making upcoming announcements beneficial for both platforms.

Nintendo Switch 2 Official Unveiling On Direct & Global Tour

Following the official unveil of Nintendo Switch 2, a global tour will kick off in New York and Paris on April 4, spanning multiple regions over the next two months. Meanwhile, Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa has emphasized that the Switch 2’s price will be influenced by various factors, including the company’s tradition of offering affordable hardware.

That’s all the latest developments in the gaming industry from Nintendo Switch. Would you like to attend today’s Direct? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
