As the highly anticipated Nintendo Switch 2 launch approaches, excitement continues to build around the new console’s features and game lineup. Nintendo has been sharing details to keep fans informed, but some surprises and changes have emerged in the lead-up to release day.

Earlier Nintendo promoted VRR support for both handheld and docked modes to enhance smooth gameplay. However, in recent weeks, references to VRR support for docked play were quietly removed for Nintendo’s official website, leading to speculations about possible changes.

Now, Nintendo has finally clarified that the Switch 2 will support variable refresh rate VRR only in handheld mode, and not when docked to a TV. A Nintendo spokesperson told Nintendo Life that the incorrect information was initially published on the Nintendo Switch 2 website, and we apologize for the error.

Importance: Lack of VRR support in docked mode may disappoint gamers seeking smoother gameplay on TV and could affect Switch 2’s appeal compared to other consoles. It also raises questions about Nintendo’s hardware focus and potential future updates.

Nintendo Switch 2 will bring visual optimizations that elevate Super Mario Odyssey’s classic adventure.

Nintendo Switch 2 Dropped VRR Feature Remains Unconfirmed For Future Updates

Regarding the possibility of adding VRR support for docked mode through a future firmware update, Nintendo said there are currently no plans or announcements to share.

Several Games To Receive Switch 2 Optimizations

Nintendo plans to release free Switch 2 updates for 12 existing games at launch, including Super Mario Odyssey, Pokémon Scarlet & Violet, and The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom. Updates bring resolution, frame rate, and HDR improvements optimized for the new console.

GameChat Feature Coming To Select Nintendo Switch 2 Games

Additionally, some games will get GameShare support, enabling multiplayer on multiple Switch consoles with just one game copy. This feature works locally and online via GameChat and is available in several titles, including 51 Worldwide games and Super Mario 3D world + Bowser’s Fury.

GameShare will let players enjoy multiplayer on multiple Switch consoles with one game copy, including titles like 51 Worldwide Games and Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury.

With dropped VRR feature and hardware changes, how do you feel about the Nintendo Switch 2 launch? Are the new features enough to meet your expectations, or do the dropped functions like docked support affect your excitement? Let us know your thoughts!
