The survival horror genre continues to evolve as developers look for new ways to unsettle players beyond traditional scares.

With platform-specific design becoming increasingly important, some studios are turning to unique hardware features to rethink how horror experiences are delivered—particularly on Nintendo systems.

Bloober Team has offered fresh hints about its mysterious Nintendo-only project, suggesting the upcoming title is being designed as a Bloober Team Nintendo exclusive aimed squarely at fans of classic and modern survival horror.

According to the studio, the unannounced game is built around a concept that leverages Nintendo hardware in ways not typically seen in the genre, positioning it as a distinctly platform-driven horror experience.

Importance: This news is major because a Bloober Team Nintendo exclusive could redefine Nintendo’s place in modern survival horror by proving the platform can support bold, hardware-driven, genre-pushing experiences, not just ports.

CEO Piotr Babieno teases Project M, highlighting inspirations from Resident Evil, Silent Hill, and Eternal Darkness.

    Pushing Genre Boundaries

Expanding on the project, Bloober Team CEO Piotr Babieno explained that the Bloober Team Nintendo exclusive, internally known as Project M, is intended to resonate with players who appreciate the atmosphere and psychological tension found in series such as Resident Evil, Silent Hill, Limbo, and Eternal Darkness.

He emphasized that the game introduces a bold creative twist the studio believes has never been explored in horror before, made possible through close collaboration with top-tier Nintendo partners.

    Babieno’s Nintendo Inspiration

Babieno also highlighted his long-standing admiration for Nintendo and specifically pointed to Eternal Darkness: Sainty’s Requiem as a personal influence, reinforcing expectations that the project may experiment with perception, player psychology, and unconventional mechanics rather than relying on traditional horror formulas.
