Art of Play Interactive has announced Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure: Arcade, a new 16-bit-style side-scrolling action-adventure game coming to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch and PC via Steam. Revealed on November 3, 2026, the game adapts the 1989 comedy film into a 15-level arcade experience featuring time travel, historical characters and two-player local cooperative gameplay.
Developed by Art of Play Interactive and published alongside Roditeli Productions, the game follows Bill S. Preston Esq. and Ted Theodore Logan as they travel through different historical periods to collect famous figures for their school history report. An announcement trailer accompanies the reveal, showcasing the game’s retro-inspired presentation and action-focused gameplay.
Players can control either Bill or Ted individually or team up with another player through local cooperative multiplayer. The adventure features 15 side-scrolling levels, combining combat, exploration and encounters with characters from the original film.
Historical figures appearing in the game include Billy the Kid, Socrates, Napoleon, Beethoven and Genghis Khan. Players must locate these characters and challenge them in individual mini-games to persuade them to join their journey through time.
The game features handcrafted pixel art designed to resemble classic 16-bit arcade titles, accompanied by an 1980s-inspired rock soundtrack. Its progression begins with a story mode, through which players can unlock additional content, including an arcade mode and standalone mini-games.
The project’s official crowdfunding page also confirms that Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter will provide their voices for the pixel-art versions of Ted and Bill, respectively. Their involvement connects the adaptation directly to the original film, in which they portrayed the two time-traveling protagonists.
Art of Play Interactive is collaborating with Roditeli Productions, Infame MKT and Creative Licensing Corporation on the adaptation. The developers describe the game as a retelling of the original movie’s storyline, incorporating additional gameplay mechanics and new twists alongside familiar characters and events.
A crowdfunding campaign is scheduled to launch through BackerKit in February 2027. The campaign is intended to help fund development and will offer rewards including merchandise, apparel, and digital and physical copies of the game. The project’s pre-launch page is already available for interested supporters.
The Steam listing confirms single-player gameplay, shared-screen cooperative multiplayer, controller support and Steam Remote Play Together. It also lists Windows 10, 4GB RAM and 4GB of available storage among the minimum PC requirements.
Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure: Arcade joins a growing selection of newly announced multiplatform games, including Buckshot Roulette's upcoming PlayStation and Nintendo Switch versions, which also remain without a confirmed release date.
Although the crowdfunding campaign has a February 2027 launch window, Art of Play Interactive has not announced a release date for the game itself. Pricing and the availability of physical editions outside the planned crowdfunding rewards have also not been finalized.
