Raw Power Games, the Danish developer behind the upcoming medieval sandbox RPG Chronicles: Medieval, has warned that it faces a serious risk of closure after losing the funding necessary to continue development. The studio confirmed the financial crisis in a public statement on October 30, 2026, leaving the game’s previously planned early 2027 Steam Early Access release uncertain.

In its statement shared on social media, Raw Power Games explained that circumstances beyond its control had left the studio without the financial support required to sustain development. The team acknowledged that it cannot continue building Chronicles: Medieval without securing additional funding.

The announcement does not confirm that the studio has permanently shut down or that Chronicles: Medieval has been cancelled. However, Raw Power Games made clear that its future is now uncertain and that discussions are underway with potential partners who could help keep the project alive.

The timing is particularly difficult because Chronicles: Medieval was approaching its Early Access milestone. Raw Power Games described the game as finally taking shape after years of development, with the team preparing to share more of its work with players.

The Copenhagen-based studio also acknowledged the impact on its employees, including developers working remotely, who have spent years bringing the ambitious medieval project toward release.

Despite the financial setback, Raw Power Games says it intends to continue fighting for the studio’s survival.

“We don’t know yet how this ends. But in the spirit of our game we’re not going down without a fight!” the developer stated.

The company confirmed that discussions are taking place with parties who might help establish a viable path forward. However, it has not identified a replacement funding source or guaranteed that those negotiations will succeed.

Raw Power Games originally unveiled Chronicles: Medieval at Summer Game Fest 2025, presenting an open-world medieval sandbox focused on player-driven progression, warfare and political influence.

Set in a fictionalized interpretation of medieval Europe inspired by the Hundred Years’ War, the game aims to let players develop their own stories while building influence, commanding armies and participating directly in large-scale battles.

Its combat system combines individual third-person fighting with army management, allowing players to lead troops into battle rather than controlling military encounters exclusively from a strategic perspective.

The developer has showcased these systems through gameplay trailers and detailed development presentations. A September 2026 Gamescom presentation featured a battle involving approximately 500 soldiers on each side, demonstrating the scale of the encounters the studio was developing.

Chronicles: Medieval was initially expected to enter Early Access earlier, but Raw Power Games announced in August that the release would move to early 2027. The developer explained that additional production time would help refine core gameplay systems, improve the overall experience and prepare the game for its public debut.

That release window now faces significant uncertainty. Unlike Bloody Hell Hotel's move to a 2027 release after securing additional publisher funding, Chronicles: Medieval currently lacks the financial backing needed to continue development.

Raw Power Games has not announced a revised release schedule, and there is no confirmation that the previously targeted Early Access window remains achievable.

The developer has also not disclosed the identity of the lost funding source or provided specific details about the circumstances that caused the financial arrangement to fall through.

For players anticipating Chronicles: Medieval, the immediate question is whether the studio can secure enough support to complete the project.

Raw Power Games has asked interested players to keep the game on their Steam wishlists and continue discussing it publicly. The studio emphasized that community interest remains important while it explores options for survival.

The developer promised to communicate further developments directly to its community, regardless of whether the outcome is positive or negative.

For now, Chronicles: Medieval remains an announced PC game without a confirmed cancellation, but its development and planned Early Access release depend on Raw Power Games resolving its funding crisis.
