EA has confirmed that the leaked gameplay footage from Motive Studio’s upcoming Iron Man game is authentic, turning what was initially an unverified development leak into the first genuine look at the project in action.
The confirmation came through the newly surfaced official Iron Man game account on X after more than two minutes of work-in-progress footage spread online on August 28.
“Well, that didn’t go as planned. But now you know, and we’ve got a lot more to show you. See you when we’re ready,” the account said.
EA separately confirmed the legitimacy of the account to Kotaku, directing the outlet to the post after it asked the publisher for comment. That also confirms the leaked footage itself is genuine.
The video appears to come from a recent internal or testing build and carries an “AUG26 TEST” watermark.
It remains visibly unfinished, with placeholder assets and incomplete sequences appearing throughout, meaning the footage should not be treated as representative of the final game’s visual quality or polish.
Even so, the leak provides the first meaningful look at how Motive is approaching the Iron Man fantasy.
Tony Stark is shown flying at high speed through city environments and larger outdoor spaces, rapidly transitioning between aerial movement and combat.
Several sequences show Iron Man hovering while attacking enemies with missiles, energy weapons and other suit abilities before dropping into close-range fights.
The movement system is particularly prominent, with Tony able to accelerate through environments using his repulsors and quickly change altitude or direction during combat.
The footage also suggests suit customization will play a role.
One scene shows Tony surrounded by Iron Man armor before interacting with a system that appears to modify or configure his suit.
Motive has not officially explained how deep that customization system will be, so it is not yet clear whether players will be changing individual armor components, abilities, appearances or broader suit loadouts.
Characters including Pepper Potts and James “Rhodey” Rhodes also appear in the footage.
A large S.H.I.E.L.D. Helicarrier can be seen during one sequence, indicating that the game will draw from the wider Marvel universe rather than focusing exclusively on Tony Stark’s personal conflicts.
Other character identities circulating online remain less certain and should be treated cautiously until EA or Marvel confirms them.
The leaked video also briefly displays a placeholder section labelled “Release Window,” but no actual date or timeframe is shown.
EA has not announced when Iron Man will launch.
Motive originally revealed the project in 2022 as a single-player, third-person action-adventure being developed in collaboration with Marvel Games.
The studio has said the game will tell an original story inspired by Iron Man’s history while focusing on Tony Stark’s complexity, charisma and technological creativity.
EA later confirmed that the project is being developed using Unreal Engine.
Development has continued alongside Motive’s involvement with the Battlefield franchise, with the studio previously saying Iron Man remains an important priority and had passed major internal milestones.
The new confirmation also clears up potential confusion caused by another Iron Man leak earlier this month.
More than an hour of footage recently surfaced from Avalanche Studios’ cancelled Iron Man project from the 2010s, but that game has no connection to Motive’s current title.
The footage circulating on August 28 is from EA and Motive’s active project.
EA’s response does not amount to a formal gameplay reveal, and the publisher has not announced when an official trailer or presentation will arrive.
However, its decision to acknowledge the leak directly removes the biggest uncertainty surrounding the footage.
Players now know that the high-speed flight, combat and early suit systems shown in the leaked build are genuinely part of Motive’s Iron Man project, even if all of them remain subject to change before release.
