Fortnite dataminer FireMonkey says A Nightmare on Elm Street content has been decrypted in the game, providing a new look at the material planned for the Freddy Krueger crossover. The discovery comes shortly after Epic Games launched Fortnitemares 2026 and officially confirmed Freddy Krueger as part of the Halloween event.
Epic has already established that Freddy Krueger is more than a reference in the event. The official Fortnitemares announcement places him at the new Nightmare Neighborhood point of interest, where players can fight him and obtain Freddy’s Nightmare, an item that allows a short-range teleport followed by a melee attack. Epic also says A Nightmare on Elm Street outfits and accessories will roll out during October.
The new decryption report concerns the crossover’s unreleased cosmetic material rather than the basic existence of the collaboration. FireMonkey posted on October 2 that the A Nightmare on Elm Street content had been decrypted, while Fortnite-focused reporting and community posts surfaced the same-day appearance of Freddy Krueger cosmetic material. HYPEX has separately shown a Freddy Krueger emote and reported a bundle containing an outfit, back bling, pickaxe, emote, wrap, Kicks and a guitar, although those specific cosmetic details remain dataminer findings rather than an itemized Epic announcement.
The timing makes the discovery more significant because the crossover is now part of a live Fortnitemares rollout rather than a speculative future collaboration. Epic’s official event materials say the Halloween celebration runs through November 1 and that characters and accessories from A Nightmare on Elm Street will arrive throughout October. Freddy Krueger is already active as a character in the Battle Royale experience, with his Nightmare weapon tied directly to the Nightmare Neighborhood encounter.
The crossover itself was confirmed before the event began. Epic’s Fortnitemares promotional material placed Freddy Krueger alongside Five Nights at Freddy’s, Slender Man, The Purge and other collaborations, while subsequent coverage identified A Nightmare on Elm Street as one of the properties included in the 2026 Halloween lineup. The official launch information now confirms that Freddy has an in-game role, while the newly surfaced decrypted data provides additional evidence about the cosmetic side of the collaboration.
The broader Fortnitemares rollout also includes several gameplay changes, including cursed Overrides, returning weapons and the Five Nights at Freddy’s animatronic encounters. Players can fight the animatronics, possess them after taking them down and use the new Halloween systems across the event’s modes. That makes the newly decrypted Freddy material part of a wider October content rollout rather than an isolated cosmetic leak.
For now, the distinction between confirmed and leaked information remains important. Epic has confirmed Freddy Krueger’s presence, his Nightmare Neighborhood encounter and the arrival of A Nightmare on Elm Street cosmetics, but the full contents of the decrypted cosmetic package have not been formally itemized by the publisher. The newly surfaced data therefore provides additional detail about the crossover while leaving individual cosmetic availability and bundle details subject to the live Item Shop rollout.
