Fortnite’s Mega Man collaboration has now fully decrypted, revealing the crossover’s three playable outfits as Mega Man, Mega Man X and Zero. Dataminer FireMonkey surfaced the decrypted Mega Man and Mega Man X cosmetics on September 7, while HYPEX shared Zero’s completed Fortnite outfit shortly beforehand. The discoveries resolve the biggest remaining question surrounding a set that had been encrypted since Fortnite’s v42.10 update.
The first outfit is based on Mega Man’s appearance in the upcoming Mega Man: Dual Override, rather than simply using his older classic design without modification. FireMonkey’s decrypted files identify it as “Mega Man (Dual Override),” while a separate cosmetic is dedicated to Mega Man X. Zero completes the three-character lineup, bringing the red-armored Maverick Hunter alongside X as a separate outfit rather than merely an alternate style.
That lineup substantially advances what was known earlier in the week. Initial encrypted-file information established that the Mega Man collaboration contained three skins, but the identities of the two additional characters were hidden. Players speculated about possibilities including Proto Man, Bass, X and Zero, particularly after Fortnite’s Override artwork appeared to reference imagery associated with the Mega Man X series.
The picture became clearer when Fortnite teaser material showed Zero earlier on September 7. Official Fortnite social channels subsequently teased X and Zero together, removing much of the uncertainty surrounding their involvement before the encrypted cosmetics themselves began opening. The full decryption now goes further by showing that X and Zero are individual Fortnite outfits and confirming Mega Man’s Dual Override version as the third member of the set.
Rush is also part of the crossover as a Sidekick. Earlier encrypted data had already identified Mega Man’s robotic dog, but the decrypted material has now allowed dataminers to show Rush functioning in-game. Additional footage shared by Fortnite leakers also shows a Rush Jet Sidekick emote in which the character transforms into his familiar jet configuration.
The wider cosmetic set includes multiple accompanying accessories. Earlier file analysis pointed to three pickaxes, two back blings, an emote and a spray alongside the three outfits and Rush, with several cosmetics containing additional style variants. Some of those styles appear to offer different rendering treatments, including options associated with Fortnite’s cel-shaded presentation, although final style names and how every variant will be selected should be confirmed through the Item Shop interface.
Mega Man’s arrival is tied closely to Chapter 7 Season 4: Override, Fortnite’s season built around crossovers with major gaming franchises. The Mega Buster is already usable in Battle Royale, while Mega Man imagery has appeared throughout the season’s promotional material alongside franchises such as Sonic the Hedgehog, Persona 5, Kingdom Hearts, Tetris and Crash Bandicoot. The cosmetic release expands that presence from gameplay references into a complete character set spanning both classic Mega Man and Mega Man X.
The collaboration is also receiving dedicated competitive content. Epic’s official competitive site now lists Mega Man Cup events for September 8, including Duos Battle Royale and Zero Build competitions as well as a separate Solo Mobile Cup. Players can also earn the Override Buster Blast Spray by securing five eliminations with the Mega Buster, while regional Mega Man Cup placement thresholds determine access to additional cosmetic rewards.
The timing matches earlier datamined information that pointed to the cosmetics decrypting on September 7 ahead of an expected September 8 Item Shop release. Epic has now publicly acknowledged X and Zero and officially scheduled the Mega Man competitions for September 8, but the complete Item Shop pricing and bundle structure should still be treated separately until the storefront updates.
What began as an encrypted three-skin package is therefore no longer much of a mystery. Fortnite’s Mega Man lineup consists of Mega Man from Dual Override, Mega Man X and Zero, with Rush joining as a Sidekick and a larger collection of themed accessories accompanying them. The remaining details are primarily commercial ones, including final V-Bucks prices, individual purchase options and the exact bundle configuration when the cosmetics reach the Item Shop.
