Forza Horizon 6 is still officially scheduled to reach PlayStation 5 before the end of 2026, despite recent reports suggesting the port may have slipped into next year. Playground Games reiterated the window on September 7 in its newly published British Automotive update, telling PS5 players that the game will be releasing on the platform “later this year.” No specific PlayStation release date has been announced.

That wording is particularly notable because reports of a potential 2027 release have circulated since late August. The Verge’s Tom Warren said on August 27 that he was “not expecting” Forza Horizon 6 to appear on PS5 in 2026, while subsequent coverage cited similar expectations. Warren also clarified that the PlayStation version was still coming, meaning the reporting concerned its timing rather than a cancellation.

Microsoft and Playground Games have never formally announced a delay, however. The official Forza Horizon 6 website currently continues to describe the PS5 version as coming “later this year,” and the same wording appears on Playground’s September 7 update. The game’s official FAQ and several previous Forza posts have also maintained the 2026 target, while PlayStation users can already wishlist the title through the PlayStation Store.

The result is an unusual discrepancy between recent reporting and the current public position of the developer. Warren’s comments suggested that the PS5 port may not be ready until 2027, but Playground has now repeated the 2026 window after those comments were published. Unless the latest blog is carrying outdated boilerplate, the first-party information available as of September 7 still points to a release before the end of the year.

Forza Horizon 6 originally launched for Xbox Series X|S and PC on May 19, following four days of Early Access for Premium Edition owners. Playground confirmed during January’s Developer_Direct that the PS5 edition would follow later in 2026, making it a post-launch release rather than part of the initial platform lineup. Earlier speculation around the game’s timing also included an apparent Forza Horizon 6 release-date leak before Microsoft formally announced the May launch.

The game takes the Horizon Festival to Japan and features more than 550 real-world cars alongside a large open world combining Tokyo-inspired urban areas with rural landscapes and mountain roads. Playground has continued updating the Xbox and PC versions since launch, including new cars, Festival Playlist content and permanent gameplay additions. Its multiplayer suite also includes Horizon Play modes such as Spec Racing and Touge Showdown, which form part of the broader package eventually heading to PS5.

The September 7 British Automotive update adds Drift Attack as a permanent activity at Shimanoyama Circuit, alongside new Festival Playlist and Car Pass vehicles. At the end of the announcement, Playground again directs PlayStation players to stay tuned and explicitly states that Forza Horizon 6 will release on PS5 later this year. That makes the wording considerably more current than the original January announcement.

There is still no month, day or pricing information for the PS5 version, and pre-orders have not opened. With less than four months remaining in 2026, Playground will need to provide a more precise date relatively soon if it intends to meet the stated window. A later release would also place the racer into an increasingly crowded end-of-year schedule, although Microsoft has not cited scheduling as a reason for the lack of a date.

For now, the most accurate distinction is that a 2027 delay has been reported but not officially announced. Playground Games’ latest first-party update, published September 7, continues to say that Forza Horizon 6 is coming to PlayStation 5 later in 2026. Until Microsoft or Playground revises that wording or announces a new date, 2026 remains the game’s official PS5 release window.
