FOUNTAINS Launches on Consoles September 17 With New DLC

FOUNTAINS will launch for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch on September 17, 2026, alongside the release of its new Shattered Shape expansion.

The Soulslike action RPG originally launched for PC via Steam in December 2024. Publisher Crunching Koalas and developer John Pywell announced console versions earlier this year, with the newly confirmed September date now setting the game’s first release on PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo hardware.

Nintendo’s official store currently lists the Switch version for September 17, while the Shattered Shape DLC is also scheduled to release on the same day. Gematsu reports that the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series versions will launch simultaneously.

FOUNTAINS is built around deliberate Soulslike combat and a large interconnected world that functions more like a single sprawling dungeon than a collection of separate levels.

Players take control of a hooded stranger who has been imprisoned by a tyrannical regime and must escape while uncovering the history of the One Kingdom and the mystery surrounding the Fountain of Youth.

Exploration is one of the game’s main focuses. New abilities and tools gradually open previously inaccessible routes, while shortcuts and hidden paths connect different parts of the map.

The game also includes an online messaging system that allows players to leave notes for others throughout the world, either providing useful information or deliberately misleading them.

The console release will arrive alongside a broader update that adds adjustable difficulty options and additional language support. Those changes are also planned for the existing PC version.

Shattered Shape expands the game with a new region called the southern Vainlands. According to the official description, the area has long been abandoned by the One Kingdom and contains new dungeons, enemies and secrets.

The expansion also introduces additional weapons, armor and abilities. Players will be able to use new magical swords and other tools while progressing through the Vainlands and learning more about the Usurper’s prophecy.

Story content in the DLC continues directly from the wider mythology established in the base game. New characters and quests will guide players deeper into the southern region while revealing more information about the events surrounding the One Kingdom.

Nintendo lists Shattered Shape as a separate downloadable expansion requiring the base game. An Extended Edition containing both FOUNTAINS and the DLC is also listed for Switch.

The September launch marks a major expansion in availability for the indie RPG, which until now has been limited to PC.

FOUNTAINS was created by developer John Pywell and published by Crunching Koalas. Its combat emphasizes timing and positioning, while its world design combines Soulslike structure with Metroidvania-style progression.

The console announcement also gives the game a second opportunity to reach players who may have missed its original PC release.

Its arrival on all three console ecosystems at the same time as the Shattered Shape expansion means new players will be able to access both the original campaign and the new region immediately.

FOUNTAINS launches for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch on September 17, 2026. Shattered Shape is scheduled to release alongside the console versions and will also expand the existing PC edition.
