Take-Two Interactive has reiterated that Grand Theft Auto VI will launch as a single-player game while confirming that the existing GTA Online will continue to receive support after GTA VI arrives. Chairman and CEO Strauss Zelnick addressed both topics during Take-Two’s annual shareholder meeting on September 17, where investors asked for more information about the future of GTA Online. GTA VI remains scheduled for November 19, 2026 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.

Responding to a question about GTA Online, Zelnick reminded shareholders that GTA VI is being launched as a single-player title on Xbox and PlayStation. He then separated that release from GTA V’s existing online component, describing GTA Online as a robust business that Take-Two intends to continue supporting. The comments provide a clearer distinction between Rockstar’s confirmed plans for GTA VI’s launch and the company’s longer-term multiplayer strategy.

Take-Two also addressed recurrent consumer spending during the meeting. Zelnick said no recurrent consumer spending is anticipated in connection with GTA VI’s launch because the game is being released as a single-player experience. The wording specifically concerns the November release rather than every feature Rockstar could introduce later, so it should not be interpreted as confirmation that GTA VI will never receive an online component, microtransactions or other multiplayer services.

Rockstar has not formally announced a successor to GTA Online, nor has it provided a release date or feature list for a GTA VI-related multiplayer experience. That makes the continued support for the current GTA Online particularly notable as GTA VI approaches release. Take-Two’s statement establishes that Rockstar does not intend to immediately abandon the service that has continued operating alongside Grand Theft Auto V for more than a decade.

GTA Online remains one of Take-Two’s major recurrent businesses. Zelnick pointed to Grand Theft Auto V’s longevity during the meeting, noting that the game has sold more than 230 million units since its 2013 debut. Take-Two has repeatedly said that Rockstar continues to invest significant resources in GTA Online, with updates and new content keeping the existing multiplayer service active even as development and marketing around GTA VI intensify.

The comments also arrive amid growing speculation over when Rockstar might reveal its next multiplayer project. Recent public discussion has included comments from Twitch CEO Dan Clancy about Rockstar’s plans, but Rockstar itself has not announced a launch window for any GTA VI multiplayer experience. Take-Two’s shareholder comments therefore confirm continued GTA Online support without establishing when, or in what form, a successor will appear.

For now, Rockstar’s public marketing remains centered on GTA VI’s single-player campaign starring Jason and Lucia in Leonida. The company has also begun expanding details around the game’s wider presentation, including the “next evolution” of GTA VI’s in-game radio and dynamic score. Rockstar has separately announced Grand Theft Auto VI: The Album, a 34-track release scheduled for the same November 19 launch date.

Take-Two also briefly discussed platform strategy during the shareholder meeting after being asked about PC releases. Zelnick said PC is becoming increasingly important to the company, but GTA VI itself remains officially announced only for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. Rockstar has not confirmed a PC release date, and Take-Two did not use the meeting to announce one.

The latest remarks ultimately reinforce what Rockstar is currently selling GTA VI as: a standalone single-player release arriving November 19. Existing GTA Online players will not lose support simply because the new game launches, while questions about a future GTA VI-based multiplayer experience remain unanswered. Rockstar is expected to provide any more specific details about GTA VI’s post-launch plans when it is ready.
